I have had a few where the inlay was just about falling off..that's how I know...
Printed in black ink right on the metal in the middle of the hoop.....MIJ!

Two Things:
1. That's an amazing deal. (Your friend suck$!!)
2. That tom mount is not from '71. More like mid+ 70's "Hex and Ball". The tags will tell the story, if they're in there.

PS - Holy F-----G S--t!!!
I don't know much about later Gretsch..after RB that is...
I was thinking the ball and socket was later too...but was going by the metal BD hoops....
Is that diamond plate on the BD the right one for B & S though?

B & S? The diamond plate on the BD, for the mount? Looks correct. There was another mount called the "Monster", which had a rectangular, open bracket on the BD, where two vertical 1.25" tubes slide up and down for height adjustment. The hex's went through horizontal holes near the top of each tube.
Hope this answers the question.

Thanks for posting the serial numbers. The sequence is all over the place on this kit, but they visually appear the be a matching set. All of the labels have the Guaranted for Life sections cut off or scratched out.

B&S.......=....ball and socket.....
Nice looking set.
Based upon the serial numbers, these are from the 1976-77 time frame. The snare received one of the first style Orange/White labels with the guarantee blacked out, while the others received the second style of Orange/White label (which is the first style that was cut differently off the roll to excise the guarantee).
Wow...that late....
I was WAY off!
The snare alone, can be worth $4oo+. (Is that duct tape residue over the snare tag? WTF?)
Your buddy will enjoy those. WMP is nicey! What a steal.
