Early 60's Ludwig WMP Kit Last viewed: 0 seconds ago

Hi Guys,

I just completed cleaning up a super nice Ludwig kit. I didn't seek out this kit. This one found me. I got a call from a friend who's friend wanted to sell it. Everything is original from the original owner. Some of the heads had never been changed. Here are the details:

His parents bought the snare drum for him when he joined his grammar school symphonic band. A couple years later, they bought him the matching bass drum and rack tom (and cymbals). A couple years later, he bought the matching floor tom.

Snare drum: # 902P Symphonic Super Classic Snare drum with muffle. It has the WFL logo and stamped 1958. Clear Mahogany interior

Bass Drum: Transitional Badge. Clear Maple Interior.

9x13 Rack Tom: Ludwig badge pre serial number - Clear mahogany interior.

14x14 Floor Tom: Ludwig badge pre serial number - white painted interior. Dated Oct 22 1963.

The color matches great from drum to drum.

Cymbals:

15" hi hats: Zildjian Istanbul K 1957-1958 stamp

16" crash: Zildjian Istanbul K 1957-1958 stamp

22" ride: Zildjian A 1950's big stamp

22" sizzle ride: Zildjian 1960's stamp

12" splash - no stamp

Hardware:

WFL Speedking - Works but a bit slow

WFL high hat

(2) Cymbal Stands

(3) Bass Drum Mounted Cymbal Stand

Cowbell

Original Seat

Original Hard Cases and Trap Case

No repairs were necessary. I removed every lug, cleaned the wraps and polished the chrome.

The kit is very sweet and resonant. The snare drum has such a deep tone.

Can anyone give me an estimated value?

Thanks.

That's a real 'drummer's drum set.' Drums don't sound better, or are better made, than that kit you have. I hope nobody quotes you a price that will motivate you to sell them. They need to be in a good home... and played. I'm with everybody else, keep them, play them and look after them.

Too many great drums to list here!

Thank you for everyone's support. I'm not sure what to do yet. I currently have 4 vintage kits: a 1960 Gretsch that is getting a lot of use, a Tear Drop Sonor kit that is my gigging kit, and a 1963 Ludwig Black Diamond Pearl New Yorker kit. I will most likely sell the New Yorker.

The problem is that I love buying and selling drums ... but I can only keep doing it if I sell some, too.

This Ludwig kit is very special, so you all may be right about not selling it. I just don't know yet.

They look awesome.

You have a kit that many a player/collector are only hoping to find. Even without seeing your other kits, I vote keep this Ludwig. You have a couple thousand in just the cymbals! Mind Blowi

I've been trying to decide what color to re-wrap my converted 1960 14x10 Ludwig marching snare to 14x6.5 Symphonic snare. You've helped me make up my mind, Vintage White Marine.
