I see there are portions here on VDF, wondering if anyone has a full scanned '48 WFL catalog available.

Drumarchive.com has about all of the WFL/Ludwigs but no '48.

I realize this is probably a long shot, but thanks anyway :)

Thanks Mike, I think 49 is online, if not then I'll hit you up :)

48 must be pretty rare and I read somewhere that 46 and 47 were just leaflets depicting '41's illustrations but contained updated pricing.

I've got the 1948 WFL cat, #48 with Buddy Rich on the green cover. :)

Can't do a scan right now though, can you wait a week?

Cool, I can wait! Will be worth the wait :)

All I really wanted to see was the tom section, I have a 5 lug 13'' from the late 40's and

was curious if WFL ever cataloged them. I also read on another forum that those 5 lug

toms that had Classic lugs were drilled for only 5 as that's the drill set up they had left over before the war and around 48 or 49 they upgraded and started drilling for 6 lugs...

But a whole catalog scan would be super! :)

Here's what I see - the tom page doesn't list specs like # of lugs, and although there's an 8x12 tom on another kit, the toms listed start with 9x13. But there's a pic that looks like a 5 lug tom!

Now, that doesn't mean there were actually 5 lugs, it may have been a leftover pic.

Nah, the Ludwigs wouldn't have done that!

Yup, there's the tom that I have. 5 lugs top and bottom. I think the picture on the front of the catalog shows Buddy's kit with that 5 lug tom too. Thanks for uploading that! :)

Just took this with my cell from the Rob Cook book, looks like his 13'' tom is a 5 lugger on the '48 cover -

I think those early 5 lug toms were partially made that way when they were just starting to use classic lugs. The earliest classic lug toms had small classic lugs and switched to the large size within a year or two.

I snagged the pics of this set from ebay years ago so I have never seen it in person. I found it to be very interesting because it was probably one of the first classic lug sets to come out. It looks very 30's in characteristic but has the classic lugs. It also has the older chip patter WMP which was a leftover feature of 40's WFL. The trapezoid stuff prob came out later like 1948-1949 I'm guessing. I just thought this was pretty cool history and timeline-wise. I wonder where it went?
