1948 WFl Catalog Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Catalog scanned, but I'm having some pdf conversion issues. :( Will keep trying and hopefully get it posted shortly. My apologies to those who clicked the previously posted link, downloaded a 37mb file, and the discovered it was blank.

See the attached cover, and the back cover artist roster. Note Viola Smith at the bottom, her vid on YouTube has been making the rounds. At the lower left is Gene Pellicci, the Jacob Armen of his day (if you're under 40, that would be the Cole Marcus of his day!) He's the right age to be Gene Pello - born Eugene Pellicci - who started getting attention in the late '60s. Gotta be him!

Enjoy the catalog! I've also sent an email to the folks at Drumarchive.com, they're welcome to it as well.

Still having problems converting the pages to a PDF, so I've uploaded a zipped file of the individual pages - download here - http://we.tl/unhbIkvXvp - link is good until Oct 18.

Thanks for posting that catalog. I have what appears to be a WFL Buddy Rich Superclassic snare I found in a music store some years ago. It was sitting on top of a black Tama kit and somebody had painted the snare black to match the kit. I took it home and removed the paint using lacquer thinner to reveal what appears to be gold sparkle underneath. I removed the lugs to get a clean look at the wrap and it looks gold sparkle. The wrap has faded and I did the best to polish it up using novus. I've been trying to narrow down the year and I looked up the badge in the Vintage Drum guide and it appears to be from the 40's but I can't seem to find it in any of the catalogs i've looked at. I Was hoping it would be in the catalog Bermuda posted but the catalog says nothing about sparkle finishes for this snare. Does anyone know which catalog this snare came out of? Here's a few pics. Thanks.

Hi BigJim, I love the snare wire hook up :)

Pretty much what one has to do now that Puresound has killed their remake wires for both the old Super Classic 3 hole combo, which you have, and the newer Super Classic that used 1 hole with string on the other end...

nice drum and great job saving it. I haven't looked at the 49 catalog yet. but your badge appears to be the 48-52 badge. in the 48 catalog where they list the buddy rich super classic snare, they list it available in lacquers and in pearl finishes. they consider sparkles part of the pearl designation. at the end of the catalog, they show the colors and they are actually called sparkling pearls.

Thanks for that Mike. I didn't see the colors shown in the 48 catalog Bermuda posted but I do see them shown at the end of the 49 catalog now that you pointed that out. I guess it would be called Gold Flash. Thanks again.

Eric, thanks it's a bit tricky. Had to use a combination of tweezers and the end of a paper clip to fish the string through :)

I will bet that snare is a '48 or '49. The butt plate is a version used in the late 40's before it was changed over to the common one seen in the 50's with the WFL letters on it. Nice find!
