1958 Slingerland Gene Krupa Deluxe Last viewed: 1 hour ago

This is my Father's drum set that was passed down to me. The past couple days I have been researching as much as I can before I consider selling it. Talked to a few strangers off craigslist that seemed a little too eager to take it off my hands which lead me to finding this great site! Hoping someone may provide more insight on , well , anything ! While my main objective is to price it right, I have also learned some interesting facts in the past few days that I have become quite fascinated by it all and would like to learn more. Thanks in advance for any insight you may provide me!

Capri Pearl i believe is rare and brings a higher dollar. Those appear to be in nice condition which also is a bonus. If the cymbals are old as well they can be quite valuable and desired. I'm no expert but I do know that Slingerland drums sell for the least amount of all American drum companies however that wrap is very desirable. I would try to take it to a professional and have it appraised. Values are all over the place on this stuff. Sometimes even desirable things are not selling even at a great price. I think you have a good chance of selling these because of the wrap and matching snare is a big bonus. Please don't seperate it. These should stay together. I think you'd be smart to sell the cymbals with the kit as well if they are from the same year. Good luck with your sale. If you go to eBay you could search with the "complete listings" to see what similar kits have sold for. Also keep in mind people can ask anything they want and the asking price doesn't mean that's what it's worth.

Also what things have sold for doesn't necessarily determine the value either.

Looks like a nice 1N drum kit in a rare finish. Don't separate it. As a whole, it's value is what someone is willing to pay for it. Finding a local buyer saves you a lot of headaches. The For Sale section here on this forum may find you that buyer.

What to ask? A good start is $3000 if yoi ask me. My Red Glass kit is not as rare a color, but just as complete.

One more thing, there may be date stamps inside the bass drum and/or snare drum.

Drum Kits
1965 Ludwig Clubdate Oyster Blue
1966 Ludwig Clubdate Oyster Black
1969 Ludwig BB Blue Oyster Keystone Clubdate
1971 Ludwig BB Black Oyster

Thanks Ec Curtis and schmegeggie for your replies!

Ok, I won't separate!

Schmegeggie, I did post date stamp pictures in the link. Very smeared and hard to read but believe that it reads 1958.

Thanks again for the info and insights! Hope to read more!

Beautiful kit! The snare looks to be a single ply Super Gene Krupa which is nice. The one cymbal stamp in the gallery looks to be a Trans stamp which is also nice. And that finish is rare and very cool. As mentioned, Slingerland prices are low compared to the other big US names and the market does seem to be a bit flat right now. That said, a really nice set like this in a rare finish with one owner is not likely to be affected by the flat market. Schmegeggie's estimate doesn't seem out of line to me. Good luck

The set looks like a beautiful original classic. As others have stated though, Slingerland gets the least amount of love out of all the American drum companies as far as collectability value. Question for you guys that chimed in on the $3000 estimate. Is this a realistic price that you think someone selling their fathers drum set locally could achieve, or rather a price that an established dealer with experience packing & shipping worldwide "might" be able to get on their best day ever in the international market if they were extremely lucky. I have watched the market closely for a very long time, & can't remember a Slingerland set of this configuration/era in any color ever getting a price close to that, regardless of who is selling it. With all due respect, should Jennifer expect a price that would equate to a new world record for her set if achieved?

Lots of variables here. Everything needs to be authenticated, especially the cymbals value. The guys did say $3000 would be a good place "to start", and you can always come down if there is no interest at that price. Having said that I tend to agree with Cool Stuff. $3000 may be the all cleaned up at Steve Maxwell's price. Very cool wrap though. Looking forward to see how this goes.

Sure, maybe $3k is the rose tinted specs figure but talk of world records is waxing a bit lyrical as well:) I sold my oyster pink modern jazz set with cob sound king and no cymbals or hardware for $2000. That was in New Zealand (which is in the world last I checked) but pretty sure I didn't break any records. I reckon I sold it too cheap as well.

I've always thought of Oyster Pink as being a more rare and sought after finish than capri pearl, & jazz sizes with a 14" floor tom command a higher dollar with a larger pool of collectors interested in the same set. So, with that factored in, you still got 2/3rds of what this is being valued at. How many collectors or players want to pay a bunch of extra cash for a set because there are some Zildjian A's that come with it (it doesn't look like there are any 22" cymbals there from what I see, & they aren't K's). I don't think I'm waxing it too hard...are there any finished eBay auctions for a 22/13/16 Slingerland set with snare from this era that have even come close to $3k, ever? Are you valuing the cymbals & hardware at $1000?

Awesome set, but is the forum giving accurate information with a $3k evaluation, or just setting someone up for rose tinted expectations?

Reading every one of these and appreciating all the opinions! What I do have on my side is that Im not in a position that I have to sell them. Just want to be an educated seller and know what is fair, great and " I gave it away" price range. Had no clue there are so many factors that go into it but have been enjoying the research!

So, whats up with the cymbals? What should I be looking at to " authenticate " them?

Thanks all!

Thanks all!
