Something that I love about Slingerland drums is that, once the Sound King lugs and Stick Saver hoops were phased in during the mid 1950's, the drums were largely unchanged for the next twenty or so years. SlingerLeedy drums embodied all that I liked about mid 20th century Slingies with the added bonus of those beautiful lugs. My two 1963 SlingerLeedy Shelly Manne sets are Right up there with the Krupa 1-N on my favorites list. The Shelly Manne model wooden snare drums are works of art both musically and visually.

The Black Diamond Pearl set is configured 9x13, 16x16, 14x20, matching Shelly Manne snare. The Champagne Sparkle set is configured 9x13, 16x16, 14x22. The person who sold me this set did not have a matching snare. But, he had one that I just had to have. It is a 1958 or 1959 Shelly Manne snare in Pink Glass Glitter.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

I know what you mean. I sold my 2006 Classic Maple kit in champagne sparkle over a year ago to buy my '56 Slingerland kit. That's also when I decided that I no longer needed a modern drum set.

That's what I love about Slingerlands...that 50's retro vibe

...kind of like a '55 Corvette or a '57 T-Bird...classic American style

It also doesn't hurt that they are great sounding drums
