Hi gunnellett!I have 5 Slingerland Deluxe Student snare drums in my collection, 2 of which are all original. Those 2 drums use the thicker snare string like your drum. So, yes, it was what Slingerland was using at the time. Oh, and one of those drums is also Sparkling Gold Pearl like yours, but somewhat faded. Finding one as nice as yours means it was most likely in the case for decades and not exposed to UV sunlight. Congrats on a great looking snare drum!Forgot to mention about the snare beds. They were on the deep side...and many are not properly centered! -Mark

I'm not looking to sell this snare as I tend to be a hoarder and I like it, but I'm wondering what you guys think a rough value is for it with the case? Looking at ebay doesn't seem to help a whole lot as there tends to be a decent variation in prices and condition, not many with the case, and I do not notice a whole lot of bidding on them.

Thanks!

Maybe this will help. I paid $160 for it including shipping. I thought it was a fair price price for both parties.

I borrowed a wmp Slingy 6 lugger,it had a deep snare bed like that, was tuned med high, sounded great and was a great shuffle/nawlins drum.I think the slingy 6 lugs are very under rated.

As far as value goes, the Slings go for less than the Rogers and Ludwig versions,160.00 with the case was a pretty good deal.

Yes, $160, including shipping, is a great price! Here's a picture of 4 of my 5 Deluxe Student snare drums: Red, Silver and Blue sparkle and a WMP. Missing in the photo is the Gold sparkle drum. Also attached a picture of my Slingerlan-Leedy 6-lug snare drum. It's called the Frank Capp model, but is basically a Student Deluxe with Leedy lugs. The finish is Green Satin Flame.

I'm going to have to try a higher tuning. Everything I have read has said to keep 6 lugs towards a lower tuning but might as well find out what the tuning range is.

So I saw another gold sparkle Slingerland Student snare on Ebay. Looked to be in really nice and was also stamped Dec 65 just like mine so I was going to bid on it cause the only thing better than 1 Dec 65 Gold Sparkle Slingerland is 2 Dec 65 Gold Sparkle Slingerlands but my dang computer locked up the last couple minutes of the auction and I missed out. Dang it! Well I hope someone here who can appreciate it got it. Was going to justify it to the wife saying I needed one at home and at the band's jam space and then I would also have one to pass down to each of the boys.
