I came across some Slingerlands at a local music store. They're on consignment, and the owner apparently got them from an estate sale. I'm more of a Ludwig guy, but these are in sizes I've been looking for (12,14,20) so I'm wondering if I can get some advice as far as how to tell if everything's original, what to look for, etc. I haven't taken any heads off but was told there is a date stamp of 1966 (not sure if that's in just one drum or all?). It comes with the 2 cymbal stands, hi-hat, and bass drum pedal. Hi-hat and crash cymbals appear to be vintage Zildjian. Thanks.

Welcome! Not comfortable giving the advise on originality... the parts etc. sure look like the "66's I had but who knows. Sweet little kit! Nice find!

It looks all original to my eyes. The only thing I cannot tell is the floor tom legs. How much are they asking?
The normal things you would see replaced on these would be the tom mounting hardware, bass drum feet, snare strainer and hoops. They all look correct. I would check for extra holes on the bass drum to see if the tom mounting device has been moved. It does not appear so.
I think it is original also.

The owner of the drums wants $2000, the owner of the store thinks that's too high, and is trying to get them to go down to $1800. I've only done a very quick once over, and they appear to be in good condition, but definitely are not mint.
That crazy for slingers...Radio Kings..Yes.!

Even $1800 is WAY to high. I just sold a mint mid 60's Slingerland in Dark Blue Sparkle for $750 with matching metal snare. That kit was a five piece. That kit came with all of the original hardware but no cymbals. Using that as a template, you are probably looking at around $900-$1000 assuming the cymbals are Zildjian and in decent shape. On second thought, add $200 for the sizes. People do love the 12, 20, 14, 14. I would steer clear at that price point however. Hell, for $1800, you could get a near mint Ludwig kit with matching Supra from the mid-late 60's (Oyster black pearl excluded). Good luck. I predict that kit will sit for a long, long time.
I agree - that is an $900 kit as it stands right there, not a penny more, imho. Even with the snare, cymbals, and 14 FT.

Thanks everyone. As I said I have no experience with Slingerlands, so I wasnt really sure if having the stands, cymbals, etc. would make it more desirable/valuable. I had a feeling it was priced too high, I just didn't really know how high. I'm going to pass along your comments to the store owner to see if he can get them to lower their price. Probably not, but it's worth shot. If I end up buying them I'll let you know.
Thanks again.
