So true Mike!, and truth be told... I listened to this recording back through THREE different devices to gauge what it would sound like BEFORE uploading. The BEST and certainly MOST ACCURATE was my home PC what with it's nice speakers and sub-woofer. But... amazingly, through an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 6+, the drum was still pretty accurate... relatively speaking. All this said though...

... one can still gauge the sensitivity and overall sound of the snare drum, but as you mentioned, must temper their opinion based on the listening device! If it's a "cheap" cell phone, flip phone, etc... well, you KNOW she ain't gonna sound so good! Nothing does! Honey, is that you?!

Reasonable sound system here, nothing too fancy, but the clip sounded great!

Thanks for sharing!

Oh, and you completely failed to not impress with your playing...:)

Tommy thanks for the vid. Snare sounds fantastic and you do as well. Your Berklee training is showing! Awesome stuff thank you. BTW my home pc has good speakers and sub woofer too. Sounds great cranked up at 2am!!

... Regarding what heads I have on this drum: Again, completely personal choice, as there is no right or wrong here!, and... one's playing style/technique also factor in, as I think you might agree! With that said: I have been playing the REMO Vintage Series coated heads since they came out, and I LOVE them! You will be surprised when I tell you that the top/batter head on this snare drum is a REMO coated Vintage Emperor. The beauty of that is, because it's the Vintage series, this coated Emperor is a THINNER mil than a regular Emperor, which gives me plenty of articulation and sensitivity, including brushes!, yet enables slightly tighter/higher batter tension, yet still retains some nice "thickness" to the sound, if you know what I mean. Rim shots are a dream! Resonant is the standard REMO Ambassador snare side, but also tensioned up a bit. Hope this was of some use to you! THANKS again!Tommyp

Hi Tommy,

Thanks for letting me know, that is interesting stuff. I might have to check out those Vintage Remos, but being a careful guy, perhaps I'll start with the Ambassadors. I would never ever have guessed that you had Emperors on this drum. But it does sound great!

Best,

Magnus

Magnus!

I have also played the REMO Vintage Series Coated Ambassadors on my wood Dynasonics! EQUALLY as nice!!! What I found with the Vintage Emperors .. for me .. is that they are a little more durable, but with NO LOSS in sensitivity/sound. By the way, a good friend of mine told me that interestingly, the Vintage Series Ambassadors and Emperors are HEAVIER in mil thickness than the originals! I would have never thought that given how they feel/sound! Regardless, I have them on my snare drums and toms... GREAT all way 'round!

I'm surprised you didn't play the dyna with your Rogers kit. Either way, it sounds great as do the Ludwigs.

JR/Mark!

Ah... but I do! The Ludwigs are my PRACTICE kit and are always set up in my drum room, and that's where I did this quick little recording. I gig with the Rogers, thus they stay in their cases. Beauty of the Ludwig kit is, they are the Buddy Rich configuration, so outside of playing different snare drums with them, it's like playing my gigging kit every day! Glad you enjoyed!, and THANK YOU for the nice comment!

DTF/Mitch!

THANK YOU sir! you are too kind! Again, anything other than a CHEAP mobile device is going to sound "decent" if the recording was decent to start with. Agreed!

FFR428/Glenn!

THANKS Glenn! I appreciate the very nice words! Truly, I wouldn't put a clip up if the drum/drums didn't sound aurally pleasing ... the fact that I am playing them just adds to the intrigue I guess! My Berklee training! LOL!!! Truth be told, I still use to this day, a LOT of what I got from studying with Alan Dawson for two semesters. He was an amazing player, and an even BETTER teacher, if you can imagine! He was TOUGH though, but not in a "Whiplash" way! I remember one had best be prepared for one's lesson or it was NOT going to go well for you. He taught me a LOT! THANKS again Glenn!

Tommy my pleasure. Berklee is a great school. Was my dream to study there. We did the high school jazz band competitions there in 71-72. Boston is such a fun place.

I was hanging there one day checking out tags in the hallway, when I was done, I turned to leave and a guy was coming in from a cab, when he got to the top of the front stairs I opened the door, held it and let him pass by,...about ten steps later it dawned on me, that was Steve Tyler,....

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!
