Just an update for those who care - I just met the seller (nice guy) and wow, this snare looks like it just came off the assembly line in Chicago 45+ years ago. Everyone should own an acro. This was a bit above my budget and I know they can be had for less but the condition of this baby blew my mind. Anyway, thought I'd gush for a bit. :)

Thanks and it was nice to meet you too, Larry. I'm glad you're happy with your new Acrolite and I hope you had a chance to put some sticks to it last night.

Another great VDF transaction. ;)

update - pardon my novice gushing here but I love my new/old Keystone acrolite. I was a wood snare man tried and true and never desired a metal snare until this came along. The sound is so precise. It's almost seems like an autotune is built into this snare. It makes me sound way way better than I really am. A wise investment on my part (for once!) ...

So, acrolite were always regarded as an introductory student type snare back in the day? Hard to believe seeing how highly regarded they are 40+ years later....

Anyway ... happy friday. :)

That's eBay for ya.

I think your drum is worth every bit of $250 - a nice drum and piece of drum history for that.

The person that won the drum on eBay got a very good deal.

Good luck with your sale.

I have a 67 Acrolite. I have most of my drums for sale right now - moslty Gretsch - but I'm not selling my Acrolite - pictured below.....

I'm glad you are enjoying your snare. I would have to agree with your observations. I think a big part of the sound is due to the original Ludwig snare head I left on the drum. I have a 1970 Acrolite with an Evans Power Center Reverse Dot batter and Remo Ambassador snare and it sounds a lot different. Have you played with the tuning or is it in the same range I had set?

Was this a Weathermaster CT batter db 750 medium coated? I put a NOS one on a Bollero snare rehab recently and it came alive. I didn't have time to swap it out as he kit sold fast. What head these days would be similar?

1970 Ludwig Blue Oyster Super Classic
1977 Rogers Big R Londoner 5 ebony
1972/1978 Rogers Powertone/Big R mix ebony

I haven't messed at all with your tuning. It was perfect
