Play them in good health until the economy rebounds (if it rebounds!) or until you meet up with a wealthy person and then sell them for a ton of money. That would be my option.

I noticed that most of the purple is gone (faded) on your drums....although you did a fantastic job of cleaning them up. On all of the "puke" colors (Psych Red, Citrus Mod, Mod Orange) there is a tendency for certain colors to fade away...so the collectors look for examples that are unfaded as a priority. But even more importantly, originality is really key.

Looks like a nice set! I am too a mod orange junky. I have a 1969 super classic, a 1971 clubdate, a 1970 canister throne, a jazzfest rewrapped in original mod orange and two element se's in mod orange. My wife thinks I am nuts! I would think your set could at least bring in $2000.00. It does look like most of the purple is gone which is super common. Seeing the greens gone out of a psych red set really can kill it sometimes but the missing purple in mod orange is'nt quite as bas as far as I can tell.

I think the color is rare enough alone that sometimes the missing purple is slightly overlooked. I also don't think the color looks all that bad if the purple is missing. Of coarse i would rather see it but you can't turn back time. I am not overly crazy about seeing psych red with the missing green. The green really makes that color!

Both of my old mod orange sets are pretty faded. The top of my 1969 bass drum is probobly the worst allthough the underside looks brand new! I don't care though as both of those sets are total keppers for me. The 1969 will never go if I have my way! Congrats on a nice set and the clean up looks great!

My fave Ludwig finish. Nice job! I too love the vintage kits and cannot for the life of me understand why a kid starting out would play some basswood, mega-produced, Taiwan kit which sells for the same money as some vintage kits. Whatever, more vintage kits for us, huh.

Thx for posting those beauties!

From CIBDrummer

I say all of that not to spite you. I say it to reassure you that we, the 18-30 crowd, still have a respect and love for these kits and I think that there is just a shift going on at the moment. I'll be here through the shift and I'll have a bunch of kits ready to go when the market rebounds, so to speak. And hey if it doesn't, I guess I'll quote my lovely girlfriend. "Baby, if you end up with a hundred vintage kits in immaculate shape, who cares? That's not a bad thing!" I'm luck to be dating a woman who loves drums.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to this. Your comments and passion for vintage drums does my heart good! It's great knowing that there are younger drummers out there who truly "get it"!

I've had allot of vintage kits and would have loved to keep every one. Like yourself, I'm incredibly fortunate to have a woman in my life who shares my passion for drums. She wants to buy a house and have a "drum room" too display my kits... and about 30 snare drums! You gotta love her!

I have an absolutely beautiful, custom modified and painted, 2006 Pearl Export kit. It looks NOTHING like the original EXR kit it was purchased as. The custom paint job is simply stunning! The sound is fantastic. As good as this kit is, it will be the first to be sold, simply because I don't have that personal attachment to it. My three vintage kits (Ludwig, Rogers and Slingerland) mean so much more to me. They represent a time period that can't be duplicated. Just looking at those vintage kits brings so much joy!

Again, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm glad to know how passionate you are for vintage drums!

Just out of curiosity, how do you know they are '69's? Is there a date stamp on them someplace? And what are the interiors, white or clear? The reason why I am asking is I have a '68 Mod Orange kit w/ clear interiors. I have seen 2 other MO kits from '69, and both of them had B/O badges.

My 13/16/22 kit is just about in perfect condition, except for the normal fade of the pinks / reds. The orange is still very vibrant, however.

Woo, VERY nice!

Is it just me or are the lugs on one of the toms different?

I don't know how it is in US, but here in Czech Republic, market for vintage drums is growing. Even those despised Amatis are slo-o-owly starting to get attention and you can often see someone selling 1980s Pearls or 1990s Yamahas, claiming they are "vintage"! It just shows that folks start to like old drums and want them and of course, others want to make money on that.
