1971 Ludwig Psyc Red Kit Last viewed: 0 seconds ago

Does anyone know if Ludwig issued a 1971 Psyc Red Kit? and if they did what is the appox. value? Looks like it's in decent condition, missing the mounted toms bottom hoop.

Thanks!

Need a LOT more info,as well as clear photos, the more the better.Yes Ludwig did make that finish in 71.Value has to do with condition and originality. The drums have to be in as close to the same condition as when they left the factory as possible.

This is a pic of the inside Label...I did notice some minor damage to the Bass Hoop in the previous pic.

Considering the age, those are some nice looking drums, even with the paint chips as noted. You cannot get away from the paint flaking as the lacquer they used turns very brittle in a very short time. If you get some better pix, especially of the Supra, it will make it easier. The apparent lack of pitting on the snare makes a big difference in value. If that is a COB Supra, you will really be a happy camper.

They're valuable in that kind of condition. I'm not going to say what I think they're worth, though. They're worth a lot more than they're worth....I know that doesn't make sense, but the economy is still down at the moment.

If there is as much green left in them as I can (kind of ) tell in that first picture, then that's a VERY good thing, because green is the color that chemically degrades in the presence of UV light (SO GET THEM OUT OF THE SUN!) and fades to white. Once that happens, they take on a kind of "patriotic" look that doesn't appeal as much to me....not that I'm not patriotic...I am...but I don't like the look on drums. Car Driving2

Some wear to the bass drum hoops is normal and not a problem. You'll need to get all the rims and harware together. Save any original Ludwig heads if you have them (They are valuable, too).

Nice kit...worth more than you think.

I just notice a very common problem with your rail mount The armature has been over-tightened to the point that it's maxed out and probably isn't gripping the "hot dog" part of the rail like it should. It probably slips. I could be wrong, but many, MANY of these rail armatures have bent bolts and dimpled rails from the constant over-tightening and erosion of the rail from friction/movement. It's not a major problem because you can easily get a new rail (or maybe just the armature) from several sources.

I haven't pulled the trigger yet, hough..based on what you see, and these are the best pics I can get.....what would you be willing to pay for it? I understand you would like to really examine it...I'm just looking for an approximate "I would pay x amount" and I thank you all for your input...I learn more each day on this site....knowledge is good...

What I would pay and what they are worth are almost diametrically opposed! ;) Maybe someone else will chime in, but I'm not answering any valuation questions, myself, because as a buyer, I like to get great deals and as a seller, I like to make a lot of profit! And so I'm keeping my mouth shut from now on in regards to valuations. Car Driving2

The better question to ask is "What are they worth to YOU?" because I have seen guys pay thousands for one snare drum and I've seen nearly-new looking Super Classic kits go for less than what a cheap, import kit sells for new.

It's all a crap shoot and based STRICTLY on the desire of an individual buyer at a given moment in time. You can check eBay, if you want, and see what similar items sold for. That seems to be the only direction to steer these questions towards anymore. As I've said in the past, I, personally, no longer think eBay is a good gauge of what a drum or drum set is actually worth. But that's a different topic.

In any case, nice drum set. Good luck with your decision.Storm Trooper
