1st clue, you are buying to much gear Last viewed: 2 minutes ago

I was trying to explain to my wife just yesterday why I needed a 7th Supraphonic for my collection I found on CL. After traveling a few miles to look at it & taking into consideration it was made in 1971 and looks brand new with not even a hint of pitting she more than agreed with me that I should have it (after I promised her I would treat her to Kansas City BBQ for lunch).

Ahhh... and there's the secret to a happy marriage mixed with drum collecting.

COACH PURSES!

I've never understood the amount of money purses go for, but just in case you're a 'Coach Purse' peacemaker, and not doing this yet:

I've got three daughters; two are into the 'Coach' thing, as is the wife, (the middle daughter would just as soon carry a canvas bag... her husband is blessed).

There's a Coach store in town, and I discovered they will send out 'loyalty' coupons! I get three of 'em every year, now. This year snagged me one $200.00 and two $150.00 coupons. I give 'em to them for Christmas along with gift cards (you can get discounted gift cards for Coach Stores through Discover).

Oh yeah, a new Coach purse or shoes (just give 'em the gift card, don't try to pick it out, guys) goes a long way in the 'But you've got three of those already...' wifely musings.

Haha - right on.....been there with this.

Also....my wife can't keep track....or does not want to. Every once in a while she will see a drum or a piece of gear that I bought months or even years earlier she forgets or maybe has blocked it out (?) I guess and says something like this:

"I haven't seen that....or when did you get that." It's funny....it's kind of a running joke with us when it happens...because I remember most of the time to make sure I tell her when I get new gear so it isn't all just me......well......sort of.

But ya....I too sometimes can't keep track of packages that come in - I get surprised once in a while.

I don't have nearly as much gear as a lot of you have, but there was a time when I was getting at least a couple of packages a week. Since the wife and I had our daughter almost 2 years ago and she now stays home with my daughter, the drum fund has dried up significantly. Now when I see the FedEx truck coming up the street I only wish it was stopping in front of my house...

I went though a period when the Fed Ex guy, and the UPS guy, were on a first name basis with me.

Bass player friend of mine solved the spousal oversight issue by only purchasing tobacco sunburst basses. I hadn't realized till then how many different tobacco sunburst basses in his hands.

I tried to trade in a Stagg Jazz Bass knockoff when I bought my American Deluxe. The sales guy told me to only get out one at a time and my wife wouldn't know the difference.

I'm sure she noticed the $1200 difference in the checking account! Guitar Dude Man
