50's WFL Ludwig gold sparkle kit Last viewed: 1 minute ago

Just an observation, but I think this may be sparkling silver pearl. Look closely at the last picture, under the aluminum head collars on the rack tom and bass drum. The color appears more white than yellow in these areas, which would be protected from fading/aging/yellowing/mellowing or whatever term you choose. ;) Also, I have a sparkling silver 1964ish Ludwig canister throne that has "ginger-aled" to almost the exact hue as this kit. Eye Ball

Just my :2Cents:.

After looking more closely I would say that you are right and that is silver sparkle. If you look near the bass drum hoops it does lighen up a little. It sure did gingerale though! At least it did'nt get spotty like some of the finishes did. It's also pretty even from the pics i can see so that is good. I would bet it's pretty vibrant under a lug.

Good catch SlingerLynn!

From vintagemore2000

Here is a real 50's WFL kit gold sparkle it is a 1958 kit I was able to get $1800.00 just for the kit but the canister throne is very rare and brought a lot of my kits asking price. So with all the drums hardware and cymbals your looking at the high teens for the kit your looking at for sure.

as always spot on mark im going to call those gingered ale silver

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I noticed the bass drum has the exact same cymbal mount as my 1958 WFL bass drum.

Thanks for all the helpful replies!

I asked the seller for an estimate and he wants at least 2500 euros for the kit, which is about 3250 US dollars. A bit out of my league... and I'm doubting he will get it.

It's true that prices usually are a lot higher in Europe. A bit too high if you ask me. It's far cheaper to buy from the USA and pay for the shipping, so if anybody has anything interesting for sale....

I will notify the guy that it's probably a sparkling silver pearl kit (good call SlingerLynn) and wish him good luck with the sale.

Cheers!

Ouch! That is a lot of money!

Thanks for updating us. I've been wondering if you bought it or not. Good luck on your search for a nice vintage kit...for a good price.
