'57 Slingerland Gene Krupa Deluxe 1-N Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Hola Amigos...just wanted to share pics of my latest purchase. I picked up a '57 Slingerland Gene Krupa Deluxe 1-N ensemble. It has a 22" bass drum, 16" floor tom, 13" rack tom and matching 5.5 x 14" 1-ply Super Gene Krupa snare in my favorite wrap...black diamond pearl. The kit is super clean with no extra holes or issues of any kind. It was said that the original owner kept this kit in storage for 30 years, and judging by the condition, I'm inclined to believe it. This is the reason I'm selling my 2006 Ludwig Classic Maple kit...and I'm ok with it! I am a happy, happy man.

That's not a "kit". It's a "work of art"! Congratulations on the purchase. I've got one in WMP (minus the matching snare) and the sound is incomparable. Thanks for sharing the pics. ENJOY!

Aaron does that spacer under the clamshell throw give you any problems? I noticed when I was setting up mine if the spacers were too thick (making the snare wires not level) it got a weird buzz. Mine is missing the original flanged spacers so I had to use thin washers. There's not a lot of wiggle room on that throw. Just curious? Thanks. Glenn.

Glenn,

This is my first clamshell strainer and since I took this pic, I replaced the spacer on the throw-off side with a shorter one and 86'd the one the opposite side. Seems to be working ok, now. I didn't even know it was supposed to have spacers...I just figured it did, since the wires were not level when I got it. As for wiggle room (slop) on the throw...I just made sure to adjust the tension knob just enough so that the clamshell pushed back out when I threw the snare wires off. I added a 2nd nut on the inside to keep it from spinning loose when throwing wires off and on. I had to buy a replacement handle, too, as the original was broken (no surprise). Not the best design in the world for a strainer, but I'll be dammed if that snare doesn't sound awesome! Solid shell...cob hoops...floating snare wires...you can't go wrong!
