Yes I vote to add whatever you need but keep them for sure! Being your Dads drums and all makes them more special and good reason to hang onto them. Also think about down the road you may have a son or daughter (or other close family member) you can give them too. :)

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

It would be great to give them to my son or daughter. They both love playing the drums and jamming in the basement with me. Who knows. The only reason I was even contemplating it is because I'm actually a guitar player and I'm in the market for a really nice rig. Obviously the rig would have to be just as special, but it would be ideal to hold on to the kit D' Drummer

I have a couple of floor toms with my kit. A 14 and 18. The 16 is a Slingerland that matches pretty good. I would like to get a 8"x12" and a conversion kit for my 18" so I can use them as a little jazz kit too.

I'd say what my mom said to me in the late 70's, which I posted as a comment in the Gallery just this afternoon (1967 WMP Ludwig 20-12-16 Downbeat):

http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=38798

"At one point when I had just entered the working world and didn't play them very much I told my mom that I was thinking about selling the kit for some extra money. Without hesitation she replied "Oh no! Don't ever sell your drums". For once I listened to her and dropped the thought immediately. She seemed so sure of herself."

FYI - my original drum receipt actually says "Downbeat" Outfit, even though it was a 20-12-16 (not 20-12-14). There was no mention of it being custom. I guess a lot of other people besides me ordered whatever they wanted and used the catalogs as a 'guideline'.

Do any of you guys play yours with the ride arm that attaches to the kick drum? How do you like it compared to using a cymbal stand?

I play lots of gigs where there is very little room for equipment. I have 4 different kits where I use a shell mounted L-arm for a 18 or 20" ride cymbal and then use a hoop mounted L-arm for a 16" crash cymbal. That way I don't need any cymbal stands except for the hi-hat. Works well and means less too carry. Been doing this for about 6 years now and have not had any equipments failures yet.

Where are you located? Have I seen this kit? In Northern Michigan earlier this summer?
