As most of you already know I have a Ludwig Educator kit. But until about three weeks ago it was a snare-less kit. Good ole Craig list came through once more and now this kit is complete. I had to purchase a whole kit to grab that snare, but the bass and 12" from the new kit is already spoken for. The 16" floor tom is still up for grabs, at least I think so, I kind of like having two of them. Anyway, my kit is now complete and I think its pretty cool, your thoughts please.Oh, the serial number on the new snare was 5636, my floor tom has 5638, pretty close huh!

How sweet is that!? Congrats! They look fantastic!

Thanks everyone!

Sorry for the short reply's, I was out of town and was trying to use a small device to type on.

Craig, you bet I will send pics.

Drummerjohn, I will post some close ups of the lugs soon as I can.

I would love to play these and once I have enough lugs I will. But for now I need the lugs and a few new heads.

Thanks again, I did place a pic in the gallery!

Thank you!

I also have never seen a Ludwig Educator kit until now. They are stunning!

What year did they become available?

One of our members has a very nice web page devoted to these drums. Check it out,

http://www.bermudaschwartz.com/edu/index.html

He states the they were available in the late 70's. Another guy on a different forum says he remembers seeing a kit in a music store window in the late 70's, he thought it was 1979.

Thank you for sharing the link. After reading the narrative, it seems Ludwig was in a hurry to catch up in the student entry market with little direction. Great News for the owners of these very scarce drums.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Thank you Gary, that means a lot to me. All I did to this kit was buy it and clean it, not much skill needed for that, lol!

Unique kit. I would keep that other floor tom too. Nothing wrong with two 16" tuned different.

Those are some long floor tom tension rods. That's a cool looking kit. Sure it will add some solid weight to the drums when you get all the lugs swapped out. Does it tune up ok with the current lugs ?
