Any Ludwig and Ludwig gurus here ? Need some info Last viewed: 7 hours ago

I have a non drummer buddy who picked up a Ludwig and Ludwig bass drum that looks to be complete and mostly original . By the lugs I am guessing from the 40s .The badge says Chicago . It is in white marine pearl and is 14x20 . It also came with wood blocks and a Heyn pedal . The cymbal I cant make out the make . Look familiar ? I am thinking this stuff might sought after with the Ludwig and Ludwig collectors ? What do you think a fair value is on everything here ? Here are a bunch of pics he sent me . If needed I can get better more detailed ones tomorrow . Thanks

Donnie

Warning ... Avoid member statuscymbal here, vintage_collector on DFO , and americanpatriot10 on eBay. Email me for his name. All are the same shady guy who has burned me and a list of other members on both boards . He is also selling on Facebook too ..

VERY rare size for that time period!.Most would be 24"-26"....

What are the numbers (date stamp) inside?

the cymbal is a zilco. Most of the tension rods are leedy not factory L&L T rods, look inside the shell for a stamp date as Blair stated this is a rare size, my L&L kit has a 26" bass drum

Looks like it was a larger drum that had been cut down and resized. Check out the odd placement of the lugs. This was not an uncommon practice. Not a lot of resale value.

Great info guys . I was wondering about the size . I thought for sure it would be a 26" . I have not seen it yet . He is bringing it by today . He paid $20 for the whole shebang so I am guessing he did pretty good . Bummer about it being cut down though . Again thanks very much

How the heck did they cut those down? Sure sounds like a lot of work..

I know a guy not too far away that has a WMP Cloud Badge RK 20" BD...must have been cut down also.

So this is for sure cut down . But man that seems like a ton of work . Looks like they cut it .And then just rolled it into a smaller diameter . I have not had the heads off for pics or a date stamp yet . But I can see this through the head . Surprisingly it still sounds decent . I wonder why they did this ? I know it has been said not a big resale value . But what could this be worth ? If i had room I would keep it as drum art . But my den is getting too packed as it is .

The Zilco splash sounds good . I think I might keep that .

Here are pics of how it was made smaller . No date stamp either . It has been painted white and has a stamp for Hollywood drumshop here in California .

Actually, I believe that the gentlemen were probably referring to the 'depth' of the drum shell, rather than the diameter. Possibly a 20" floor tom originally - any extra lug holes visible? What about re-rings? No idea on value, sorry.
