Anyone ever seen Rogers in Koa finish Last viewed: 57 minutes ago

Loading...

I am seeing a wrap called koa in the Rogers 1980 XP8 catalog. My badge has no serial number on it so I am asuming they are 1980 made.

My question is has anyone seen this koa wrap? Is it real wood or like a cortex? Its hard to tell from a picture. IF its not too expensive I might get some koa veneer and wrap my kit with it. If anyone owns one, a pic would be nice.

Thank you,

Jeff C

Koa is a cortex wrap. Wears like iron, and though I think it looks great, it is not a popular as other wraps. I don't remember it available in an XP8 set. Don't have these anymore, but still have a wood Koa Dyna.

There is some rogers stuff listed on E-bay right now that the seller says is that finish. It looks just like the Rogers drums I used to have, and that was just a faux wood printed wrap.(like cortex) Not an actual veneer. I'm not certain tho, mine was script badge, not the newer XP8 Stuff.

Thanks guys, you have answered my questions. Amosguy, thanks for the pic! They look nice for a cortex wrap. I think actuall wood veneer with a clear coat would be killer. And it would be a correct choice for that time frame. I dont think I will put the badges back on, they are so big and just tin foil anyway.

I need a wood snare drum to wrap with the kit if anyone has something that would fit in please pm me.

Thanks again!

JC,

It is tough to beat a finished wood shell. Too bad you don't know someone that would be an expert on wood finishes! Cool Dude

That kit will look great when you are done with it I am sure.

Hey jccabinets... I have been thinking of trying some veneering. I have been wrapping drums for quite a while. Do you have any threads on here with a little play by play help? I'm no slouch, but I'm not going to pretend I know everything ether. I just enjoy a new challenge...

Thanks, Ryan

Here's a Koa kit in my stash, 22-13-16 with matching snare (it's a Powertone I rewrapped with wrap from a trashed drum).

They look very nice in person, and I think it's the best looking of the 3 most common Rogers wood wraps of the 70's: Koa, New Mahogany, Butcher Block.

It's a Formica-type wrap, very durable.
