Are these poor babes beyond salvation? Last viewed: 2 hours ago

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/msg/3581428633.html

Ive been debating for two weeks if I should get these or not. I spoke with the guy and he's pretty much open to any offer. He told me like four guys showed up already and every single one passed on them.

As you guys can see we're talking water damage, out of roundness, repainted interiors, rusted hardware, missing reinforcement rings, Heavy fading and decoloration and wrap has severe water damage too...Theres a part of me telling me to run like hell from them...But a little mercyful angel talks in to my ear..."Save them , save them....!"....I know I must be crazy....

Whats the VDF verdict? Should I forsake them to their fate or should I give em another chance? ViolinViolinViolin

Everything needs a second chance at life... and you'll have another project..

but not at $500.. you can start off a lot better..

Hope you go for it..

Cheers

500 USD is about ten times more than what I'd give for them, but I think they have a chance. I actually find the turquoise discoloration on those BDs quite interesting.

Vinny - he's asking too much for it as it sits. Lots of parts missing, needs heads, inside of tom has been painted black and the bearing edge on one of the bass drums is shot. It will likely need to be re-cut. 'Maybe' the wrap can be saved, maybe not.

If you can talk him down at all, pull the trigger, if stands at $500 because of the rare wrap, it's still a good buy. (If) the original wrap is savable. You'll still have to hunt down and buy the missing hoops, tension rods and a round of new heads. Talk him down. Show him some cash... let him see some Benjamin's, sometimes it helps.

Nice project kit but tough asking price. Because of the rare wrap, his asking price is right in the wheel-house. Nickel over brass lugs and hardware, even in it's current condition, it's a quality project kit.

Rare finish for clubbies though. But don't mention that to him! Be nice if the wrap can be saved. Good luck whatever you do.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

I would offer around 200 for them and see what happens. It will be an expensive restore, like I need to tell you, but gee, listen to that little mercyful angel and save the poor things from those nasty drum strippers. Because thats who will buy them if you dont.

I agree with John and Jeff. $200 tops. I would offer maybe $150 you might get that back in hardware if the shells are shot. I do think you could save those. Be a lot of work and you would probably not get your investment back. But if you keep them it may be worth it.

Boy those sure do need some lovin. I would think they can be saved. But a lot of work. I was thinking he should pay you $100 to take them?? DOH I'd start at $100 even and go from there. I think it's worth a look and at least talk to the guy. He's trippin on $500 though.

My :2Cents:

They are definately 'save-able.' But, I agree with the above ideas of $200. I wouldn't even hesitate at $200... but $500 is way too much, IMO.

But, like JGWentworth says, it's YOUR money! So please keep us posted!

Vinny, just imagine what that Clubdate kit will look like when you finish them. SWEET!! Wrap = rare, Clubdate in that wrap = double rare + WOW. Of course you know I love that wrap. You need a good challenge, talk him down and go for it!

I'm in the "Save" camp, but at not a penny over $200. The bottom edge on the FT looks beat to poop. And all the other issues.

Good luck and look forward to your resto pics, in 2014.
