Nice Mitch. 10 lugs good call and looks so nice too. You'll never hear the extra holes when your playing them. :D The single flange hoops look great I really like them myself.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

> so they should fill and disappear nicely...
Mitch - Use a little wood filler and one of those pens made for touching up wood furniture! I did it to a mahogany tom I had with extra holes and the touch-up pen made the plugs disappear.

Great job on the drums. To me, single-flange hoops with clips just screams vintage! Nice work buddy.
John
Thanks dudes. You guys are the best!
I was very surprised by the change for the better in tone with the sf hoops, maybe cuz less material, the fact they're brass, the particular way they tension. I dunno but there's some magic there. Mind you I'm comparing them to MIJ hoops I had on the drum. Maybe Ludwig NOB triple-flanges would do the same? Different kind of tension dynamics than the single-flange...thoughts?
The big holes will get carriage bolts. They have dark wood filler in a tube at the hardware up the street, little nozzle like a mustard squeezer, might work good for the little holes. If it doesn't dry the right colour I'll dab a little burnt sienna and raw umber on there [but thanks for the tip John!], those two seem to equal mahogany.
I'll post again here when I open it up for reinforcement panel installation...
Mitch
That's a good looking 22!
Hey Mitch, how is the tuning go with the single tension rods? I have always wondered about that.
Thank you!

Jeff, I have the Emad batter on there, the one that comes with the foam damping ring you insert into the plastic holder - it has made every bass drum I've owned including MIJs sound fantastic, but this one's the best yet. I never put sheets or pillows in there except for recording if a damped tone is called for.
It's true you can't tune the batter and reso independently, but with just a coated amb as reso, and the thicker Emad batter, it works out about the same. Technically you're supposed to have the T-rods at the back for access while sitting at the kit, but to me they are too cool to hide at the back.
I use the method where you finger-tighten the heads, then apply pressure with your hand to reveal wrinkles, then *just* tune the wrinkles out. Even with that loose tuning I find backing it off once in place produces the ultimate slightly flabby whomp!
All this to say - the tuning goes just great! In the end all it is is half the work lol!
