Listen to just their acapella clips on youtube.Chilling!!!

Just checked some of these out! I agree, fantastic! Another vocal track worth checking out is Marvin ***e and Tammi Terrell = absolute Nirvana (not the band)! HAAH! Looks like it wont let me type the word "***e" ... Let me try this - Marvin G A Y E! geez... political correctness these days..

In the video clip from the OP, at around 1:38 Dennis throws in a snare riff that takes Mike, (whos singing) by surprise. Watch Mike turn his head towards Dennis.

Wow, that's a nice little piece of history that you participated in. What was the name of your band and what was the Rogers set you played that evening?

We were the Exports. I ordered my Rogers set from Foster's Music in Hammond, Indiana when I graduated from high school in June of 1961. The drums were not a specific model shown in the catalog (I know the catalog-correct police will try to shame me). I ordered Black Diamond Pearl Holiday model drums configured as 14x20, 16x16, 8x12, and matching Holiday snare. The 8x12 and snare drum were mounted via Swivomatic hardware to the bass drum. I had a 22" A Zildjian ride cymbal on a telescoping Swivomatic cymbal rod on the drummer's right side of the bass drum. The weight of the cymbal balanced out the weight of the tom to the left and the snare close to the center of the rig.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

The beach boys were/are nothing less than the greatest rock band of all time. Changed my life and dennis made me wanna be a drummer. And to single out pet sounds as their essential album is a huge understatement- there are 8 beach boys albums everyone should own- surfer girl, all summer long, today, summer days, pet sounds, smiley smile, wild honey and sunflower.

No "Surfs Up" ????WOW."Till I Die" ,has got to be one of the most hauntingly beautiful melodies, that I've ever heard.Having said that,I'll still take the Beatles, everyday and twice on Sundays.

Good Ghod, Leedy, I remember 'band jackets!' There was a little dance club on Sugar Hill that I used to play every couple of weeks. The regular drummer would take off two weekends a month and I would sub for him with the band. The first few times I played the club I had to wear my friend 'Bootsie's' jacket. Man, that jacket smelled like the man took baths fertilizer! I quickly bought my own powder blue jacket with black velvet collar just for those gigs.

I loved seeing the photo of your band in uniform. Brings back memories. Sweaty, stinky memories, but memories nonetheless. :p

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Very cool pic Leedybdp! A serious flashback. I was about 9 when you bought that kit, but I do remember bands like yours playing dances at places like the Weirs at Lake Winnepesaukee in NH in those days.

Just as a FYI with all this Beach Boys chatter.

Many of you probably are aware of these guys already, but I just was made aware the other day. (Hope it's ok to put a link in here)

It almost scary, they sound more like the Beach Boys than the BB themselves! Especially live.

Amazing attention to detail, right down to the equipment.

I couldn't see the Facebook page, but found similar on Youtube. Very good work on their part. I have always been facinated by the fact that there are a host of Beatles cover bands and barely any cover band that did not cover the Beatles.

Conversely, when was the last time you played a Beach Boys tune in a cover band? I've never had the pleasure though I've suggested it on many occasions. I find a good deal of reverse snobbery when it comes the the Beach Boys. They somehow were seen as an inferior band to others of their era, and that is entirely unfair in just about every respect.
