Ahhh,no.While I love the Beach Boys and the harmonies, the writing of Brian Wilson and Vandyke Parks, their singing style was VERY barbershop quartet stuff. There's lots of quartets around that use the same harmony structure as the Beach Boys did.As far as musicanship goes, the Beatles played their own instruments, and Brian Wilson used The Wrecking Crew on most BB recordings. There is photographic, and written ,documented evidence of that in the form of signed contracts, and studio log books.Listem to Abbey Road "Because" ,as an example of excellent Beatle Harmonies. The Beatles harmonies are also, taught at Berkley and Julliard and are case studies in harmony structure. You can say the Beach Boys are the best all you want, but that dosen't make it so.It's mearly your.....opinion....and opinions(though some are more informed than others) are neither right or wrong, they just are.As far as overall, catchier, and more appealing music.....really?The Beatles are STILL selling records, and everything Beatles is golden. You can say, that's because McCartney and Ringo still tour, but ....so do the Beach Boys and Brian Wilson,in some form or other.Take alook at overall record sales and name recognition, and the Beach Boys don't even come close to the Beatles. It just is what it is.But,they were fans of Brian Wilson writing and harmonies. And why not? Some of the best stuff ever written....period.Steve B

The BBs played on their records just as much as the Beatles/ all the early BBs albums have their playing, Pet Sounds was their only record they hardly played on... just cuz the BBs gave the wrecking crew their due credit and the Beatles hardly credited their session guitarists and drummers doesnt mean they werent utilized. Also never ignore how George Martin did the most for the Beatles then any of their members, except for Paul, he was the Beatles creative force like Brian was.

Left-handed and right-footed on a righty drum set is how Dennis played. That's how I play about half the time. I'll switch to all right-handed and footed for the other half of the time. I don't cross over to play the hihats, and I keep a ride cymbal and a crash cymbal on each side. We left-handed people are quite adept at adjusting to the right-handed world. Maybe some day it will adjust to us.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Where as this color looks artificially colored:

Thanks Stedi! I was trying to remember the name of that show! The James Brown performance on the T.A.M.I. show is outstanding, though the drummer looks a little scared to get fired and has his eyes riveted on JB. The whole movie is chock full o' great drums and when I saw those Camco's I nearly fainted! The Wrecking Crew is the house band too! What's not to like!

Also the full show can be watched on Youtube,... great stuff.

James Brown is indeed incredible.

During the performance of The Supremes you can see Hal Blaine in the background,...

Does anyone know which snare he is using? Camco aristocrat? Tuxedo? Super 99? Any help would be most appreciated. I thought I see tuxedo lugs but I could be wrong. What's the difference between tuxedo and super 99? Both are COB, yes?

And with all this talk I am gonna blast some Stones . What was this thread about again ?

Warning ... Avoid member statuscymbal here, vintage_collector on DFO , and americanpatriot10 on eBay. Email me for his name. All are the same shady guy who has burned me and a list of other members on both boards . He is also selling on Facebook too ..
