Big Bass Drum Poll Last viewed: 1 hour ago

I am currently looking at two different radio King kits. One of them has a 26 inch bass drum and the other has a 28 inch bass drum. My current kit has a 24 inch bass drum and I like it very much, but since that's the largest I've ever played, I thought I would run this poll. just so everyone is on the same page let's keep the depth at the vintage 14 Inches.

I have used all 3 before.

All serve their purpose tonally in recording, and contain worlds of sonic exploration.

How they feel is an equal yet different relationship.

I like how a 28 rattles back at you...rides like an old Fatboy...but because of the sheer area that the head is, and how it vibrates...it takes some getting used to.

Also...at least for "rock" purposes, you really gotta giver to get 28s singing...which can take it right out of you, if you're not ready for it.

A 26 has more control. All around easier on your legs, while still big, and curvy;)

And though 26s can get pretty dark...the 28 owns the dark, y'know.lol

The 24 feels kinda standard now...like how 22s have been the standard all along.

My 24 gets the most work. It's easy work, and sounds killer every time.

It travels easier too.

Sadly though, after playing big drums for a while...little kicks never really quite get away from feeling like playing floor toms...or boxes.lol

Cheers.

Do.

I love big bass drums they are my favorite. I own 24" 26" and 28" if you have never played a 28" bass drum you don't know what you are missing they just roar. but 26" are my favorites.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Part of me would really like a 26. But the practical part of me says no way. Would not ever consider 28. I mainly use 18 - 24s. I only have 24s on two modern kits, and those are a new experience for me. I was surprised that a 24 didn't seem all that big after all. The main problem is Tom positioning.

So the question is, what would you rather carry? And how large is your bass drum case/bag?

24'' is as big as I ever want but I never had anything bigger so I probably don't know what I'm missing :D

But If I wasn't using a rack tom, I'd go more than 24!

Found it!!

Go big or go home... lol 26 inch is just right they move a tremendous amount of air and once you have played one you never ever will go back to small bass drums they just don't cut it..... and a 26 will fit into any music style...

I clicked on 24", but I'd prefer an 18" x 12" :)

First post, just joined. Up until a week ago i used a 26 for over 8 years, double bass back in high school... absolutely loved it but i must say my heart belongs to the 24. My favorite bass was a beat up 60s 24" ludwig, nice heart stopping punch without sucking the power out of you.
