Bill Ludwig infamous "green vistalite" letter Last viewed: 6 hours ago

While reading a different thread I saw a reference to something called Bill Ludwigs infamous "green vistalite" letter. Because green vistalites are near and dear to my heart and the fact that I've never heard about the letter before, I'm very interested in the contents of the letter. Can anyone enlighten me as to the contents of the letter. Thanks, Gerald.

Hey Gerald,

I am the one who mentioned, and now owns the letter. It is an original letter from Bill Ludwig Lr, on his stationary, framed and matted(heh, heh) stating Ludwig produced no more than 50 green vistalite kits, as they were slow movers. He goes on to say they really only offered them for about 2 yrs. This really sheds some light on the number of clone kits that are out there and usually causes me to cast a skeptical eye on most of the green kits I see listed.

Would the green floor tom that comes with the jellbean kit be a different green or can that be put into a geen vista kit ?

Are these the ones from Janesville on Craigs? If you got them, I hope they are original too. Great find! Congratulations

Even though he would be the person who should know these things I wouldn't say that necessarily means that any green sets over 50 are fakes. I have a similar letter from Bill Ludwig that states that the Supra shell was changed from brass to aluminum in 1971 or 1972. Not to slight one of the greats of the drum world in any way, but his recollection of these things wasn't perfect.

Those look nice. The "less than 50" thing gains a lot of traction with those who have green sets to sell. If there were less than 50 sets sold they would probably be rarer than Citrus Mod or Oyster Pink and yet they don't seem all That hard to find.

Ludwig wouldn't have known that green would be a slow seller (or they wouldn't have bothered in the first place) and I would suspect that more than 50 sets would have been made up just in anticipation of the demand they hoped would materialize when the color was released. They would have made up sets on "spec" to ship all over the world for dealer's showrooms.
