Buddy on Rogers in 1971 Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hopefully this wasn't posted before. If so, apologies. Great little video of Buddy Rich on the Mike Douglas Show in 1971. Mike has him set up with a set of Rogers drums long after the end of his endorsement.

Looks like black strata, or possibly blue, and in the Roy Burns Starlighter set-up (absent is the splash cymbal arrangement). Swiv-o-matic tom mount is in backwards, but seem to be working well. They have the tom about as far out to the left as you'll ever see, but it certainly doesn't affect Buddy's speed across the toms.

The Mike Douglas show originated in Cleveland before moving to Philadelphia. My old drum teacher and still a friend, Bob McKee, was the house drummer on the show and a Rogers endorser. He also is the mystery man on the 67 Rogers cover and throughout the catalog. There were Rogers kits in all the TV studios around Cleveland. I had recently posted a few pics of Krupa playing Rogers kits on "The Upbeat Show," also from Cle. My bet is the clip is from the Cleveland studio.

Never saw that one, and don't remember seeing it in 1971, and I used to watch that show all the time. Thanks for posting that.

Interesting short solo for Buddy (did he even hit one of those cymbals once?). He definitely concentrated on showing off his speed. Waiting for Tommy to weigh in.
