The black pearl drums in the pic are beautiful. Very classy with the Steinway in the background. ;)

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Did Steve do all the restoration work? If so I've been looking for him for quite a long time. I haven't yet found anyone I would trust with my Camco's on the west coast. Precision drum co. Yes, and Jack but they are both back east.
Steve does good work. I met him when he was looking for a smaller Blaemire bass drum. Ended up buying all the Blaemire shells that he owned.;)

Roger! Almost finished! Bass drum is done, working on floor now..as you probably remember this set was damaged in a house fire! (Smoke) This guy might possibly be one of the very best is restoring old Camco's They look like NEW! Amazing.. Anyway, Caught a "lighting bolt in a bottle" someone posted a VG set of 13" Cob Camco rims on Ebay.. I was the third person to click on it.. Just about had a heart attack! so now, Thanks to you, My Camco kit has all the correct cob rims! (except the 10" tom.. which by the way everyone was made by Steve Schmidt. 951-999-5386 Riverside CA. (the shell. adorned by period correct hardware) its perfect! the bearing edges are exactly like the "Oaklawn" toms.. And yep.. Sounds wonderful.) Cheers.
I should be thanking you! The opportunity to help you bring that set back to fully restored is a gift that will last a lifetime.
Yes. Steve did all the work. (I removed all the hardware etc. fun!) He is very meticulous. He makes a assessment on each drum very carfully. for example, my set was damaged in a house fire.. It was completely coverd in soot! the previous owner sanded the drums with steelwool!! including the badges. so much so, the badges were brass only in color. ground down almost flat.. I'm a very picky person when it comes to things of this nature (just ask Steve! lol) and I am 100% satisfied with his work. (and his prices for that matter) The kick drum is now finished with the floor tom to follow. I will post a few pics of the set for everyone to see. Cheers.
Kudos and highest recommendation for Steve Schmit. He just detailed two Slingerland kits for me. They look and sound fantastic. His work is first-rate and his prices are more than fair.

Question? how do the "Phantoms" compare (and sound) to your 70's Visties? Courious! Thanks!
I'll admit to having a Slingerland bias, but I think the Phantoms sound better. I didn't measure, but it appears that the Slingerland shells are slightly thinner.
Caveats:
1) I didn't A/B them side to side, but the comparison was made at two separate outdoor gigs.
2) Head differences: The Ludwigs arrived with Evans Hydraulic tops and several different bottoms. I replaced them with clear Ambassador tops and Diplomat bottoms. I left the bass drum as it arrived: Clear Aquarian batter, clear Ludwig front with a large hole, Evans pillow. The Slingerlands arrived with new Pinstripe tops and Diplomat bottoms. I might retain that combination, because the drums sound fantastic. The bass arrived with a Pinstripe/Ambassador combination. I had an 8" offset hole cut and use a thin folded beach towel that doesn't touch either head.
3) Other than changing the heads, I'm playing the Ludwigs as I received them. Steve Scmit detailed the Slingerlands, and he did some light edge work to a couple of the toms.
I don't dislike the Ludwigs, but I love the Slingerlands.
