Camco Value Last viewed: 40 minutes ago

VDF users are not only used to getting deals due to their knowledge and access to the market, they (we) also make a hobby out of bragging about what we paid. Don't look for an accurate market price here, is my advice. Everyone will lowball the numbers in the hopes you'll sell to them, or trying to make themselves look like a savvy buyer.

Go put together a pretty 0.99 auction on eBay, and you'll see what the immediate market will bear. Or, if you're patient, put em up for a lot and eventually someone will pay it. That someone won't be a VDF member, though.

This kit will do well to the right buyer - one thing to note is the bass drum hoops are not original. They look more like Gretsch with a wider channel than Camcos have.

I would guess 1500 range - like Prufrock said an original early Camco set (although quite faded) and with original hoops etc just sold for 1600 or so. You could put it up for $2000 or $2500 Buy It Now with a "Make an Offer" button and see how you do. Regardless, best of luck with it!

Mario, I think we are in the same ballpark and just suggesting different marketing strategies. My initial thought - due to how nice the kit looks (and I am guessing sounds) - was $1400, but then I had to remind myself that the shells were not born together, and the hardware isn't all original, etc. If I were listing it to really sell (and we're talking Ebay strategy here, which is hypothetical as I believe the OP is wisely holding onto this cool kit), I would start with a "too good to pass up" starting bid of something like $850, and then have a BIN for $1250 (if this were too tempting, then ramp it up to $1450). There is a good chance that those looking for a good deal will start the bidding, worried that someone will find the BIN reasonable. Then you hope that others will start in the bidding and become "invested" in the item. It could potentially go for more than the original BIN, which is by that point moot.

I do get the other strategy of putting a higher BIN price with the chance for a "best offer." I think those who do this figure that every once-in-a-while you will have someone pounce on the high price (which must happen). Saying this, the high price may chase people away who would offer a reasonable amount for the item.

There are so many ways to market effectively. I tend to like sellers who consistently offer good quality, honest merchandise for reasonable prices. They build up a loyal clientele.

I think I'd be a bit more bullish than $1250 too...and if you're doing ebay make sure you open it up to international.

There are people outside the US who will pay a lot more for what is for them an extremely rare Camco kit (Camco didn't export until the LA era) than the slightly jaded US collector who is comparatively up to his armpits with highly collectable drums.
