Very nice of you John. Good chance JB Weld would mend the break. Advantage is won't destroy the plating.

Alan, the part went out today. I haven't a clue how long it'll take to make the crossing and the hand-off from one postal system to another... but it'll get there!
If you take a small round file and file the slot that the strainer arm travels on (near the top of the slot,) it won't stick when you engage, or disengage the unit. You'll see where the little bump is in the slot. Just file it down a small bit and it'll travel smoothly in there. It's an early 50's WFL unit same as the one that broke on your drum.
PM me when it arrives. In hopes it helps out... it's on the way.

John, you're one cool dude. That's about the nicest thing anyone could ever do for a drummer and his sad, broken snare drum. It's means it all. You've no idea how glad I'll be to get that part. I'm very glad to be apart of this drum community were people help each other out like this. I think it's fantastic! And I'll tell you something, the snare drum will now mean a lot more to me knowing a fellow vintage drum buddy from all the way across the pond has helped me to restore it. The snare is going to be great! I'm going to fix it up and I'll post pics so you can see the drum you've helped bring back to life. I'm going to pm you and I'll have to insist I reimburse you at least for the postage. Thanks so much, John, you're a good guy! Thanks for doing that.
It's 'all in the family', Alan.

Indeed. The strainer on my WFL Barrett Deems was popping out and I took a small round file and made the notch a little deeper; now it works great. Rounded off the peak a little bit so that it would work smoothly.

Erik,
Yes! That's exactly what this one needs! I was going to do the adjustment myself at some point and just never got around to it. The part was just sitting in my stash waiting for some TLC.

John, the part that you sent arrived today! I can't thank you enough. It's the exact part I needed. I'll PM you now. I'll be posting some photos soon. :)
For those of you out there in Vintage drum land that have not been following this thread. Purdie Shuffle aka John has kindly sent a replacement part for my old WFL 14" x 6.5" Mahogany snare drum. It had a broken p-83 and those of you who know the old strainer will know how hard it can be to source one of those. John has sent one to me and it made it all the way to Ireland where it will be used on my snare drum. I will post a new thread with some photos of the drum fully restored back to working order thanks to our good buddy John. The drum has a nice, full, fat sound. The finish on shell is badly scuffed and scratched. Would it be advisable to sand it down and refinish it? I've seen some restoration jobs on these snares before and although they look clean and new, they never seem to match that original mahogany finish. Any advise on refinishing (or not refinishing) would be welcome.
