Cancelled Gig Last viewed: 7 minutes ago

Don't do any gigs without a signed contract. It's unprofessional to work without a signed contract. The written agreement should include a paragraph that covers (untimely) cancellations.John

I was wondering about that too. But then, I have a lot of questions about gigging because my band is not to that point just yet. I know I read another thread here on VDF, some member had a gig cancel but still got paid, thanks to their contract. And, I always wondered if you need to provide proof of insurance, i ask because that's what I have to do with my job.

Thank you!

yep, John is right.

there was a cupl times we showed up for the gig to find another band setting up stage, the venue had doubled booked. the first time, wasnt much we could do but go home. the second time it happened, we had a contract, they tried to get out of it but it clearly stated we got paid no matter what (not them words, but you know what i mean) so needless to say we got to do the gig and the other band had to go home. the venue didnt want to pay both bands. having the contract helped us out.

i should add this was two different venues and bands we were in. the second time we were a more professionally organized band.

We always have contracts for any wedding, private party, festival and good gigs like that. In our area most typical bar gigs are without contracts though and most club owners are real good to work with. Like I said the problem has only happened to me twice in 40 years.

Pretty much the same around here. Then it all depends on attendance [bar sales]...I can't remember having an indoor gig cancelled, though it might have happened. Definitely not for rain...:)

In my neck of the woods I've been in club bands- (working men's clubs/social clubs) where you're not very likely to get a gig canceled because an agent is getting you the gigs, but if you're in a pub band ( just playing in pubs) and someone in the band is booking the gigs themselves I've so times had gigs canceled due to double booking or something. :(The nerve of them sometimes.
