Cannister throne height? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Fortunately for me the original Ludwig thrones are at the right hieight for me. I agree with everyone alse that you should make it to your height though. You will be much happier. My drum teacher bought a Rogers WMP throne in the early 60's and ended up cutting it down so he could use it! It looks kind of short now as he still has it! It's been really bastardized though and I think it is currently white.

The throne that Jim Petty at JP2 Creations made for me uses a Keller 14" shell. Maybe you skinny butt people are comfortable on a 12" diameter throne like the vintage Ludwig that I have. The 14" diameter canister is 21" tall from floor to top of seat. It is very comfortable, and the shorter height is much more friendly to my 5'5" height.

Guys....You know that metal "banding" that you see at the top and at the bottom of the canister thrones? Where would one get that banding? I was half thinking of using Silver sparkle bass drum inlays.

But I'd rather use real metal banding like on the originals. Any ideas?

LeedyBop: How much was the keller shell for your throne?

Thanks guys!

I have no idea about the price of the shell. Jim Petty made the throne for me as a made to order job. You can reach Jim at:

You could go to a metal shop and ask to buy a couple strips of real thin sheet stainless. I can't remember what they are called but they lay it on a table type thing and clamp it down, then either hit a button or jump on a lever that cuts the sheet off all at once. We have the latter type at work, it's about 60 years old and still cuts...well, like a knife! You could dress up the edges on a belt sander I would think, if needed. Either trust your math and multiply the diameter times pi or take a not stretchable string and wrap that around the base to get the length. The width would be whatever goes on those, I don't know. Never had one, never built one. I will be heading home from Kansas City on Saturday and I will check what we have in the shop on Monday. If they have some thin Stainless, I will see about getting a couple strips. I can ship it in a cardboard tube. Probably no charge for the metal, and seeing as I don't know how to get paid via paypal, I will probably ship it on the arm too! Post the width you need in the meantime and I will see what is there on Monday. No promises made as they might not have any. Also, if you live outside the US, I probably don't have the patience to even try and figure out how to ship it to wherever, no offense.

I will throw a plug here and say that I make this offer since a member who will remain nameless (ROGERSLING!!!!!) , sent me 10 Slingy t-rods and claws, all mint condition, when I was looking for 8 of them. The price including shipping was ZERO dollars and ZERO cents and I have yet to get him to reply to a PM when it remotely asks him how he would like to be repaid. His only reply was, "this is what we do", on the subject of repayment. With that said, if I can get the strips, then this is what we do.

Have a wonderful evening
