I called Ludwig.
The engineer came to the phone and said, "make it quick", so I said How come a 52 Ray McKinley has splay on the tension rods ? He said "This drum is supposed to have display on it". I sad OK thanks and he hung up.
So, put a display sign on it.:D
I don't think I've ever seen or owned a Jazz Festival snare that didn't have that splay, and I've had at least several over the years. I have had at least one Rogers PowerTone with splay in the opposite direction. I didn't like that look too much, so I didn't keep the drum. I didn't try to figure out why it was that way, but it could be it had hoops that were not correct for the era in which it was made - Dayton speckled era and maybe had Fullerton hoops. They were Rogers hoops though. As with thisbright14's snare, it sounded good. I just didn't like the way it looked. Each to his own.
Okay then! ... with a gentle "clean and polish", I will CLOSE this thread as it has run it's full course, and with some info of value within! Amazingly, it did NOT deteriorate as badly as it could have, still... there were some moments.
