Dilemma: Modify WFL Speedking, or find another... Last viewed: 2 minutes ago

From bumzdrummer

moonweasel, I have a short base pedal and a wide one. The one with the shorter base fits my 69 ludwigs best. PM me and maybe we can find a solution in trading the bases. Squeaks almost always come from the foot plate hinge and you could keep your foot plate. I have just rehabbed the base: remove springs, pins, bearings, and cleaned and re-lubed/re-packed all. This one has puller port in the end caps for easy re-lube access. Original caps though.Willing to try to figure a way to help you although I have never done a trade on VDF and I am not sure of the "trust" process. I have references on deals on the VDF. Again PM with interest.

Bumz,

Can't thank you enough. I am with you about "trust" etc. It is tough without feedback. I have decided to keep my eye out for another affordable one with the proper Chicago Logo and "tabs". I'll try my current one and that one back to back, and keep the one that works best.

Also, I can't bring myself to modify this one or split it up to trade parts, I am weird like that. :) It has made it 50 years plus; seems right to keep it together.

Thanks

Oh. Duh. I thought the issue was the footboard bottoming out.

And you're right, the beater doesn't strike the head flush...and judging from the beaters I've seen coming in on the 'cores' I buy from ebay, that problems been going on for decades!

It happens on my 67 Downbeat kit, too. Not on the 69 Slingerland kit -- the DB does have wider hoops.

I have two Ludwig frames with the longer tabs and shorter vertical parts but they're both "works in progress," so I can't compare.

Sheesh. Didn't get it at first - sorry for the confusion.

Just a note about trust. Moonweasel (Stephen) is a class act. I had the pleasure of dealing with him before the Holidays and was GREAT to deal with. A+++ in my book. I'd have no hesitations to buy, sell, trade whatever with him again. I also left him great feedback in the positive feedback thread which is a sticky somewhere here. Just a heads up there!! ;)

Thanks for the feedback. I was just wondering without the "cover" of Paypal how trades with Shipping were done.

Moonweasel, Thats fine. Just an offer to help out. I have the whole pedal, i was just suggesting this as a low overhead/cost solution to get a vintage pedal up and working. Drum on!
