I've been reading Jeff's story about his experience with drunk band members and I though about sharing what happened to me last week.
We just bought our house here in North Hollywood and we wanted to celebrate with our friends (we got no family but ourselves here on this coast). We planned a super cool party with at least 4 bands. Different styles but all of them great musicians. When we shared the news with our friends everybody was so in to it. Everybody wanted to help and play. We weren't paying of course. It was a house warming party with friends. None of the bands were pro. All of them put together just for the party. The party was planned with at least 2 months in advance. There was classic rock, Pop, Disco, Hard rock and even some Grease (the movie) moments...Only one week before the party all of the sudden everybody started making request for changing the song list, not playing with a certain musician ,not wanting to use a certain drum set, a certain guitar or bass amp, not being able to play that early (we planned the party on a Sunday afternoon for better convenience for everybody), not being able to play after 5 pm, not wanting to play a song that was agreed on advance, feeling sick, not wanting to play more than two songs, wanting to rehearse with the other guys, this and that...It was a nightmare! We had the wine, beer, food, a jumper for the kids, we rented tables and chairs, light system, sound system...The problems and conditions reached a peak on the previous Friday when at least one or two members of each band weren't even confirming his participation...We were under so much stress and uncertainty that we decided to cancel the thing. We were having such a hard time that it wasn't worth it. I lost at least $400.00 on the rentals only. I was able to return almost everything but the booze...So here I am with 60 bottles of beer, 15 bottles of wine and 5 Tequilas...And I dont even drink!!!! grrrrrrrrr!!!!
