I just never understood when someone goes all out to have a great party with a number of acts to entertain and alot of the musicians bring their ego.I`m sure one on one or in individual bands at gigs they`re fine, but put em` all together back to back and competition sets in.All of a sudden you`ve got everybody wanting to be playing at the "Woodstock Festival" in a backyard.Boogles my mind why such manner takes over but musicians do love to compete and try to perform better than the band that preceeded them and this is where all the problems set in.Most sorry to hear that this happened at you house warming party and many congrats on your new home.I`ve never wanted to host such an event for the very reasons you descibed here and i don`t want the rental loss or headaches of all the musical politics. Now if musicians could just come to play and not compete with each other`s bands then that would be a wonderful party without many problems...

Vinny, sorry to hear about this. Sounds like a ton of planning and deposit money down the drain. I guess just try and remember the musicians that were not on an ego trip and keep them in mind for future. Congrats on the new home, enjoy it and have fun with your own family.

Thank you!

That hurts me to my heart for ya, Vinny.

What the hell is it with some guys that they have to look at every appearance behind their rig as being some grandiose endeavor? It's like bar gigs, man. You're playing somebody else's stuff most of the time in a neighborhood joint. Just be professional, lay down your parts, and try to have fun in the process. If there's an ad in Rolling Stone touting your schedule, cool. But if not, just accept that you're a smellier version of a jukebox.

Vinny, I'm personally convinced that guys who put people through what was done to you have issues that have NUTHIN' to do with playing music.

What a shame. No good deed goes unpunished, eh?

Also, have you ever noticed that this kind of thing NEVER happens to A-holes that deserve it? OY!!!!!!!

Your story...

Got me thinking about something that's happening soon...

1 of our bassist (he's turning 50) soon...

So he's arranging a big big open mic party with all his friends (lots of musicians)...

He's taking over a big cafe in Kensington market here in dwntwn Toronto...

Where some of our big talent (I.e.Tragical Hip/bare naked ladies) have performed before..for local small venues...

So were all taking about it in our Facebook...and he says..."Kelly I'll save all the Allman bro's tunes for you..!

I thX him, & added....(hey, I'm in Maui, for a cpl weeks...returning the evening before yr Bday gig..hope the jet lag isn't a killer...(12 hr return flight with the stop over in Vancover)..!

He replied...(oh Kelly sorry, I meant my old friend back from my high school days (Kelley)...

(When I go on his FB page, I see he's a drummer also)

Before any Misunderstandings start....

The other gentleman (Kelley)...writes....man, awesome, 2drummers for the evening...That is Great...(then he writes to me)...can one of us bring an acoustic kit & the other an Ekit & something different.?

I reply...ok, I can bring an ekit & a Cocktail kit with Lots of accessories...!

His reply....Awesome, ...we'll take turns jumping back in forth on all these kits...

(Luck for both of us) were the same height...lolol..

Were gonna have about 5 guitarists...

2 differnt bassist..2 keyboardists..

A complete (4peice) Horn section...

Standup percussionist...2 kit players..

Harp & Pedal steel lap guitar player..

2female backups & 2 different lead singers...

The place will be Packed..! ( max is 100 )...lololol...

But I have to say....It will be nice to play with other "Classy" Musicans...

Man that stinks! I would have played just about any music people enjoyed. I will drum for beer and German food.

Basically I think is the LA attitude...Everybody here thinks as a star of himself. They might be living on their rehearsing place (I've seen it many times). They might be living on their parents basements (same) but they're stars! Just about to "make it". They shared the stage back in the 70's with the guitar player who use to live across the street from where the Doors used to rehearse...So they're stars! Buddy Rich signed their sticks at Disneyland...They're stars! They lasted half a song during the 1984 Black Sabbath audition for a drummer...Stars! Dont get me wrong: You might have fallen in to hard times and your forced to live at your parents basement or on your lockout...But if you're invited to a party where there's gonna be plenty of food and drinks and a decent PA and a lovely Ludwig set and everybody is gonna have fun...Please leave your star requirements at the door...

Man, Vinny, my heart hurts for ya.

Although I am from LA, and have dear friends in LA, you may be on to something about that being a factor. Maybe some people thought that there might be "industry" people there, or heaven knows what.

There are musicians in LA who are not like that, but there are unfortunately plenty who are.

Congratulations on the new home in an amazing town!

Now you get to find the musicians who are not always "networking."

Man...What a mess, Sometimes I think I am fortunate to be the generation after the boomers and born in the 60s where most of us grew up watching what drugs and alcohol did to people...

On the other hand, living in L.A. might be reason enough to want to put your brain to sleep... Toilet
