Hypothetically, if someone were to take your snare collection away and say you can keep only one drum based on how it sounds and not on market value, which one would you keep? Would it be the Acrolite? I think for me it would be my 1966 Acrolite. In reality, it sounds better than my Craviotto steam bent maple.
How's that for honesty?

If your question was directed at me, I have to say it's a tossup between these two. BTW, both cost me significantly less money than would have a steam bent maple Craviotto, which is, IMHO, a fine but seriously overpriced drum:
The only thing more laughable than the fact that there is a 5 page thread where people are arguing with and insulting each other over the merits/shortcomings of the Ludwig Acrolite is the fact that I actually read all of this crap. Wow. I have the flu and am stuck at home on the couch, so I have an excuse.
Seriously guys. Its a great $100 snare. If you can get one for less or even much less, great. If you don't like them, don't buy/play one. Now please. You are sounding like a bunch of 3rd graders. Who's dad is gonna beat up who's dad next? electricit

The thread was in praise of a fine drum and their price being way below the quality of the drum. The Acrolite is a very very good snare drum and I would not hesitate to use it in any pro situation. Of course there are more expensive drums, and some sound better than others according to the tuneing,heads etc, but the Acrolite is like the Shure SM57 of mics.If you know what your doing you can always make it sound good. band3
The real irony of how this thread has played out is that I agree completely with the above statement... as I think I made clear in my first response.
Of course, nobody who knows anything about mics would argue objectively that the SM57 is the best mic in the world.

I just got an idea:
Should we start a thread where we all spout off our opinions on which drums sound the best to our ears, then post pics of our favorite drums and commence to argue that they are better than everyone else's favorite drums? Oh nevermind...thats what Royal Ace already did to this lowly thread started by a dude that just wanted to express how much he likes his Acrolite.
The only thing dumber than this would be an argument over which mics we prefer for which recording situations with which different types of bands/musical styles. You can get that all day over at gearslutz.com if you want.
