It's a fabulous shell design as you state.

I took the heads off my Niles era, eight lug steel Slingy and just about threw up.

Very poor design and material, basically a tin can with lugs and rims. Friggin' junk compared to the Acrolite.

When Bill Ludwig Sr. envisioned a "steel" shell drum and brought his ideas to the engineers, they did it properly, investing in time, research and material to come up with the right shell, the Acrolite and Supra. Not only that (as you say O'Lugs) they made it available to the masses of drummers who could only put out $100 on a snare. Bravo to Ludwig!

Ever looked inside of a COB Sound King? It has snare beds.. a refinement not to be found on the Acro/Supra that pays off in performance.

I love Slingerland, and Ill +1 that. Their student steel shell snares are major junk compared to the Acro. They look like toys on the inside. That said, they still sound pretty good for something you can pick up @ $50 or so. Way better than the import steel shell garbage kids start on today.

O-Lugs, well put on that last longer post! I also hi-five Ludwig for bringing a great sounding, affordable, amazingly well built snare drum to kids and professionals alike. I also like that they can still be had for $50 +/- these days! I think my dad paid 50 for mine back in 92 when I got my first drum!

Thats GOOD lack of inflation. Bad lack of inflation would be bands getting paid the same $400/$500 today that they got paid in the 60's for playing in a bar all night. OUCH!

I zigged when I shoulda zagged on a ten lug Acro. So, I picked up an aluminium Premier instead. I have yet to see it; it was on Banjo Center's Website for $80 shipped. I just hope I like it...

BTW, O-lugs, did I really read where a guy posted his music to be heard and then the namedropping and making fun of it occured? Wow. Lame-city man. I am talking bottom of the barrel weak move there. Its the problem with on-line interaction.

Things often escalate to ridiculous levels. Propriety, civility, decorum and respect take a back seat. Cheap shots become cannonades.
