once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
Usually anything over the 16" diameter is going to need to be wrapped with 2 pieces.
Standard wrap comes in 24" x 54" sheets. Any drum over 16" in diameter requires more than a single sheet. (an 18" drum requires approximately a 57" linear wrap). Therefore, 2 seams on any drum over 16".

ReWrap? Something you might need to investigate.

How Old?
This would be where to start investigating. Compare. A rewrapped vintage drum will have two seams. And an original wrap,.......... might not.

Color of drum? Is it a re=wrapped drum? have the edges been re=cut? On vintage 18"'s the seems should be across from the badge on the drum.Mikey
Does this mean the drum companies used to get their wrap in longer sheets than is available now (54")?
This is a definite possibility for the satin flames (moires) that are sold by the foot from giant rolls. The thin solid color wraps may also have been available in rolls of material. However, everything I have seen, read about, heard about tells me that the pearls and glitters and sparkles were always sold in standard size sheets. If not, wouldn't a giant drum maker in the 60's such as Ludwig take advantage of buying huge rolls of Oyster Black, Silver Sparkle, etc?
