Here is a video from the man himself Don Lomnardi regarding Dretsch drums. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ukU_9LhQ3s"]Message from Don Lombardi Regarding Gretsch Drums - YouTube[/ame]
DW Drums buys Gretsch, Gibraltar, LP and More Last viewed: 2 hours ago
The Drum community is tight. I reckon If DW chooses to run Gretsch into the ground then that will be the end of DW too. However I believe John Goode is a drum nut and will be excited by this acquisition and make the most of it. Fingers crossed!
I doubt that any result of this acquisition will end DW. They are about as successful as it gets in the drum manufacturing business which is no small feat considered they are still a privately held company.

I'm afraid this statement is simply a lack of understanding of a Free Market system altogether.:p
Gretsch had been on the skids way back when. I don't think they've ever been properly managed. At least DW has the marketing prowess to take them to the next level.
Stay tuned folks, I think what you will see in the coming years will satisfy your drumming appetite.band2

Without a doubt, but I believe anger would build if DW seemingly killed Gretsch. DW have done so well despite having what seems to me to be a legion of haters and detractors on every drumming related site and Facebook collective. More so than other brands. I don't think that would help them at all and give rise to all those anti-DW fans around the world, and I'm sure DW know that.
But anyway I don't think that's the plan judging from the heartfelt speech that Don Lombardi released in the video. I'm really excited about it, hopefully it's the shot in the arm the Gretsch company needs, and if successful will only add to the DW brand.

However I'm interested in the Gibraltar thing. Will they merge that with the DW hardware brand? Or again carry on the two brands side by side. We can bet most of the gear is made in the same factories, and all for the same function of holding our drums and cymbals up. The designs are very close apart from the distinctive DW black handle tighteners. Any thoughts?

I posted something similar on the DFO site. I understand that some don't find anything special about the DW sound or that the sound is just not for them. That is fine and should be everyone's prerogative.
That said, the "hatred" projected by some on various forums is frankly childish. I am sorry but I will call it what it is.
- DW is a family run busines
- They produce an extremely high quality product
- They are very innovative
- They display a genuine love for drums, drummers and the industry
- They offer a ton of options
- They design and build their own shells
- They have great customer service
- They have an artist roster to die for
The "hatred" appears to be based simply because they are extremely successful. Something akin to liking REM before they became broadly popular and then seeing them as a sell out.
As I said before, God help C&C Drums if they become even more successful. The haters will start bashing them too, for no reason.

Nothing but love for DW over here. I wish someone that good would acquire the Slingerland brand.
Now they can reissue the Floating Action pedal!

Actually, it is an example of the free market working properly! All too many players today never knew that DW began by purchasing the LA Camco company when it could no longer stay in business. The first DW bass drum pedal was in essence the Camco pedal with a different name in the castings and a few other cosmetic changes - complete with strap drive! Ever wonder where those round DW turret lugs came from? First George Way...then Camco...eventually DW. Leedy, WFL, Leedy & Ludwig, Slingerland, Zickos, Hayman, and all the rest of the rare treasures that we love and search for only became legendary vintage treasures by going out of business!
