From Starship Krupa

I wish someone that good would acquire the Slingerland brand.

Didn't Stone Custom Drum Co. purchase the Slingerland machinery/molds and are making shells ala the old days? Their cheapest snares are around $300 I believe.

Personally, I think DW Drums are awesome! The tone, construction, and quality is unmatched! I've owned 5 or 6 DW kits going back to the 90's, and all of them brought compliments of how good they sounded.

I second the history of DW and where it falls into modern drum history.

Never understood why people hated DW, I would assume it falls in-line with something similar to Corvette's(can't afford it, so hate it!).

I think DW will preserve the name and legend that goes with Gretsch drums.

This was just post by Mrs Gretsch, from facebook.

Fred and I worked very hard to buy back the Gretsch company from Baldwin 30 years ago. We worked very hard to build the Brand Identity this past 30 years. We are in control of the Gretsch drum brand. We will make sure the drums continue to be made to the Gretsch quality using same shells and parts. I assure you, our Gretsch drum friends. Will continue to be made in the S C factory with our same experienced staff.

Indeed; I chatted with him at NAMM last year. His shells do indeed look just like my 1969 set.

It's the Slingerland brand that yet languishes.

Actually, it is an example of the free market working properly! All too many players today never knew that DW began by purchasing the LA Camco company when it could no longer stay in business. The first DW bass drum pedal was in essence the Camco pedal with a different name in the castings and a few other cosmetic changes - complete with strap drive! Ever wonder where those round DW turret lugs came from? First George Way...then Camco...eventually DW. Leedy, WFL, Leedy & Ludwig, Slingerland, Zickos, Hayman, and all the rest of the rare treasures that we love and search for only became legendary vintage treasures by going out of business!Laughing H

Yeah when drummers not quite in the know go on about those terrible lugs that are too big and do this and that to the sound I Laughing H in my head. I feel like screaming "but they're Camco's you idiot". Ah well.

Also my old Hayman snare has a similar large round lug design and that drum sounds fatter than a Sumo's backside! Looks cool too.
