eBay question... opinion sought! Last viewed: 4 hours ago

OK, I know a lot on here despise eBay, but I've stated many times that I don't have much choice because of the part of the country I'm in needs the eBay "market." I've sold on eBay for years, but have come across a new problem just this past week.

I sold a Ludwig 12x15 keystone badge tenor drum at a very good price. It actually went on one of those "bidding frenzies" right at the end, and it even brought more than the Buy-it-Now price I had originally put with it. The buyer paid through Paypal almost immediately, but also sent me a message saying that he had changed his address and sent me his new address. I immediately replied, asking him to log into his Paypal account and change his shipping address... but he didn't reply. I packed it up anyway and when I went to ship (entering his new address), I was warned that in changing the shipping address to anything but his "verified" address I (not he) lose my "seller protection." In other words, I could be liable to replace his drum or refund his money IF the shipment was to not reach him.

So, I message him again, explaining the situation and asking him to log into his Paypal account and change his address. No response. So, I messaged him again. And again, and again. No response. And, 5 days later, still no response.

So, I called eBay Customer Support. Do you know what they told me? They told me to SHIP IT TO HIS OLD ADDRESS, that I have to cover myself and will have done my part, since I have attempted to contact him requesting he make the address change.

I'm NOT comfortable with their solution to the problem. Any thoughts or ideas???

Thanks!

ship it so it has to be signed for with identification. ? None of the options seem reasonable. There is another alternative, I think as part of the user profile... a telephone number is included. Call the jackleg.

That's a tough call. Can you cancel the deal and give him his money back.

If it were me...id give it a few more days. If he just changed his addy, he may still be in the process of a move and has not had a chance to get internet at new addy. Beings he has already paid for it im sure he will contact you, especially if he is expecting a package that has not showed up yet.

Isn't there a way to get the buyer's telephone number from ebay? There used to be.

There is... but the buyer has to give it. If the buyer has provided it, it shows in the "order details" page. He didn't...

Thanks anyway. And I appreciate the other responses as well. As for now, I'm just going to hold it for another couple of days. IF I have to, I'll cancel the transaction and refund his money and either offer it to the next bidder (you know, that "2nd Chance Offer" thing they have) or relist it. It's a 60s keystone drum... somebody wants it!

Agree on holding it for now. If the guy really moved and is in transition, shipping to old address might result in "lost" package (and claim for refund) especially if someone has moved into the old address. Then both you and he will be expecting the other guy to make the deal whole.

Check your paypal account for the buyers email address. Maybe he/she will respone via their personal email instead.

Bill, I am with Robyn on this. Give it a few more days (of course you already said that you would) and give him some time to get the move out of the way.

Thank you!

Yep - I wouldn't ship it to someone who's not responding. Worst he can do is give you negative feedback for slow shipping if it turns out to be legit. Give him a couple days, as others said. Sometimes people are away and don't see the message for a while.
