Great customer service :rolleyes: that would turn me off right there. Sounds like he thinks his $hit don't stink.........there is a reason he owns everything in his store.....with an attitude like that no one will buy it! :p

He,s eccentric,and what does it matter really.If he does,nt care either do i.I think i,d try him on just for the experience.The world is a learning place after all.

I don't like this type of business either. What he wants is to own a business, make money and not have to deal with any b.s. How nice would it be if all business worked that way but unfortunately, business doesn't work that way at all. He wants his cake and wants to eat it too.

I spent almost six hours at the Toyota dealership before I finally agreed to buy my latest truck. I asked about anything and everything and took not one, but two test drives to make sure the one feature he told me about worked the way he said it did. I figure it is MY money and if the guy who wants MY money doesn't want to spend the time to earn MY money, he isn't going to get MY money. I almost, stupidly, entertained the thoughts of one of those Ridgelines but the salesman there told me to look around the lot and come in and find him when I was serious about getting something. I was burning rubber about thirty seconds after that and I emailed that dealership's manager a couple days later outlining that ridiculous treatment, read him the riot act for embarassing me in front of my wife and then told him to call the Toyota dealership down the road and ask that salesman ( I named him) if I was serious about buying.

That elite drum shop gives me the same feeling. " I don't want to spend any more time than I have to with you so just come and give me your money and hurry up and get those damned drums out of here" Yuck.

I traded some drums years ago from a guy named Bill Pace. He had a storefront in downtown Forsythe, GA with a ton of really nice vintage kits and snares etc. Not only did he let me take all the time I wanted, he took me over to his house after the deal was done to show me (and let me play) his prized Gretsch kit and gave me a history lesson on old tube lug snares...That's customer service.

There is a music store in Johnson City, Tn. called Cate's Music. It is the only Hammond Organ dealer in this area. I heard from word of mouth that he had a whole upstairs floor full of organs, but you have to ask to be accompanied up there. So, I asked, and here comes Mr. Cates himself. He was about 80. I wasn't serious about buying a vintage B-3, but he treated me like a 5 star customer. I got the grand tour of his 50+ vintage organs, and an hour and a half long lesson about the way a Hammond works, how it originated, demonstrations, and a long, long story about the rise and fall of the Hammond Organ factory right across the street. That's how it should be. I run a restaurant and our regional VP says we need to treat our customers like we would guests in our own home. That's how any business should be. You should be allowed to stay a long as you want, hang out, and play, without getting that annoyed stare.

mine wasn't negative, per se. i'm just not interested in the place as set up.

You all should watch this documentary "[COLOR=#000000]I Like Killing Flies[/COLOR]" from 2004. If you want to see how this restaruant is run. I was amazed the way they do business!

I have/had 4 friends in there 80's, they were all a little rough. Nice people, my friends, but life at that point has a different meaning to them.

He has been doing this for so long, he has become hardened to people in general. He can't close the place because that is all he knows in life. He makes his own rules and people need to follow them. He feels like he deserves it, right or wrong who is to say otherwise. He does not care at this point in life. He is waiting to die...

It might not be the way you would expect business to be run, but I'm sure this guy can be a real pal if you just break through the rough exterior.

After 10 years in retail, I could not take it anymore. It gets to anyone and I started making my own rules! We had a lot of wonderful customers that became friends, but the general public really takes it out of you.

If I was close, I would be knocking on the door every day :)

I was there once. I was about 16 and with my dad. A bright eyed kid engulfed in drums. He was gruff to say the least. The store was divided into 2 parts, the counter side and the drum set side. He had a 2 x 4 across the entry to the drum side, and you had to ask to be let in to see them.

We talked about what kind of drums I wanted and when I told him I wanted a set of Sonors, he asked why? He likened owning a set of Sonors to his friend who had a Porche. His friend always parked in a no parking zone and got tickets. He said his friend said this way he knew the cops were looking after his car. Why would I want a set I would be paranoid leaving in a bar?

He then went on to tell me that most drummers can't tell the difference between drum brands anyway, that all you are paying for is a name. He went on to say that he bet I couldn't tell the difference between 3 drums, if they were all the same size, had the same heads, and I tuned all three of them because I was the one tuning them to what I wanted to hear.

He also went on to talk about his friend that had recently passed, Buddy Rich. How MD used a horrible picture of him on the tribute issue. We also talked about Craig Kampf, a local guy and possibly (don't remember) former student, who had just played on his first major record.

Some things stuck with me, some I've learned otherwise and some never set in. Good or bad, I will say it was a rather unique experience for this kid...
