We have certainly reached the deepest depths of our American decline ladies and gentlemen. Girls wearing skirts, women actually cooking, and respect for our elders has been replaced with painted on pants that show the top half of thier backsides, Mcdonalds/BK/name your joint, and "pull the trigger and get it over with"........

I am merely making an observation, not offering an opinion.

Here we go, but I must go forward.....

Remember when reading posts, no one is saying he "SHOULD" be this way or he CAN treat people like this.

No one also said ALL 80 year old people are like this.

And YES, it is not the way most of us were brought up., BUT

I'm basically discussing being in business for so many years DOES affect SOME people and yes many OLD people are alone and that does also have an affect on every human being. It changes your mind and does things to you. That is a scientific fact, or at least in the movie Castaway :) it has been documented to attract a grown man to a ball :)

The way I see it and based on my earlier posts, he does not care anymore and to him that makes life much simpler.

He should close the shop and go on a long vacation and enjoy life.

The retail business is one I never want to be in again. It changed me.

I have been lurking this area for some time, but had nothing to add prior to now. I grew up in the Milwaukee area, and while I primarily traded at Cascio music on Lincoln Ave. in West Allis (now Interstate Music), I did go to Faust on occasion.

I purchased an M-55 Pro Vibe there in 1974 or '75, as he had the best price I had ever seen (as I recall it was almost 50% off of list). The last time I was there was about 10 years ago. As I recall, he instituted the locked door policy after the shop was robbed (it is in a part of town that had digressed considerably since the 1970's). We visited for awhile and I made a small purchase (a Gajate foot bracket), and as I was leaving he gave me a '77 Slingerland catalog and said "thanks for stopping by".

My most vivid memories of the place are: 1) he had a full set of snow white North drums set up in the showroom and 2) most of the drum sets were broken into parts and arranged by size (all of the 8x12 toms together, all of the 9x13 toms together, etc.).

Perhaps age and the neighborhood have been hard on Mr. Faust, but he had a great shop at one time. Don't be concerned about the shop's stock; Steve Maxwell knows all about Faust Music.

I've also sampled Mr. Faust's unique brand of customer relations. I've also saw the barrier that was described previously here as a 2" X 4", although when I was there it was a piece of pipe.

I also have my own story to tell about my experience there.

I was on a vintage cymbal hunt in Milwaukee and so I stopped in to his store. I told him that I was looking for old cymbals, but he didn't seem to have exactly what I had hoped for. Then as I was nearly out the door, he stopped me from leaving when he brought out a 20" old K. from behind the counter to show me. He said that "some black guys" had offered to buy this cymbal from him when they had the money, but they hadn't returned to consummate the deal. So he asked me if I was interested. I asked him how much he wanted for it and he replied $200. I said that I was indeed interested, but didn't have quite enough cash on hand for it, but that I would return shortly with money. I then went around the corner and got a cash advance at the local bank. I returned as promised and finished the deal. Then on my way out the door he said to me: "One of those guys from Chicago would have given me $300 for that cymbal and thanked me for it." I guess he must have liked me for allowing me such a deal. Perhaps he saw a kindred spirit in me because I too am something of a cantankerous old f*a*r*t. At any rate, I didn't have the heart to tell him that I just happened to be "one of those guys from Chicago".

I then took the cymbal back to Chicago and sold it for a nice profit. The guy that I sold it to thanked me for it. He was right.
