The 6 lug black beauties were the very first ones. Probably early 20s. A fine score. I agree about contacting Mr. Curotto about restoration. Just don't let him talk you out of it! LOL.
Yea, About 5, and a huge gong! I should have closed the box and bought a lottery ticket!Andy
I am unsure if anyone has said it yet, but other than wiping those cymbals down with a damp cloth, I would not do any further polishing or cleaning until Drumaholic has a chance to advise you of what you have and the values and whether or not to actually do any cleaning or polishing. Just the way the vintage cymbal, heck the vintage everything world works, do no cleansing until you know what and how to do it.
You guys are right. I sent Mr. Curotto an email last night based on your comments and he sent me a wonderful email shortly after. He seemed like a great guy and gave me several options for moving forward. I'd like to thank everyone who answered my post and pointed me in the right direction. Your passion for vintage drums is evident by your knowledge and willingness to help others less informed. You guys are the BEST!
Thanks, Andy
Thanks for all the replies. This drum is a six lug and has been in the family since the twenties. I plan to restore it somewhere down the road and pass it along to my kids. I recently acquired all my grandfather's gear and I'm still trying to figure out what is what. I'll post some more pictures.
I replied via email to your questions, I sent a very detailed response to your restoration questions....did you receive my email?
