FT Leg Bracket Decision... Last viewed: 5 hours ago

I love my Club Dates! Always particularly wanted the old-style FT leg brackets, they look so neat. But man are they wobbly! Really, I can't take this drum out to a shared-kit gig and put the other drummers [or myself] through that; I can see it dancing away as I type lol.

So, I have three of the large vintage Gretsch FT brackets, for the 1/2" legs. I picture them on the Club Date floor tom just anchoring that thing like poles in cement! I want to put them on there, but whatever I use, I have to sell the other. If I sell the Ludwigs, they will have the legs included; Gretsch, just the brackets. I checked ebay and it seems it's about $100.00 for either set, legs or no. But I wanted to ask: which do you think would net more $$?

There is also the negative that the holes are not the same but not different enough; if I use one hole to start, the other end is a "hole right next to another hole" deal which is off-putting. I suppose I could plug the one hole which would help....I dunno.

Thoughts?

Thanks Mark. I do have the isolation feet on there, didn't consider the fact that they might keep the drum from bouncing away...

What do you [or anybody] think of rubber sleeves on the legs, wedged between the leg and the bottom rim, to ever so slightly leverage the leg away from the drum for extra stability?

Mitch have a look at these. Snip the inside backing plate in half, trim to fit and they are adjustable to any size. Sell your original Gretsch mounts and save a few bucks. Stash the clubby mounts away for safe keeping. Only drawback they are a pre order deal and won't ship till 9-1. But have a cool vintage look sorta like the original Gladstone mounts.

Hey Mitch,

Have you taken one off to see what might be up? Worn part. Maybe shrink wrap on the legs to tighten tolerances and a better grip. Trying same on the nephews Maxwin/Pearls. Fails always easy to remove.

Thanks guys. The issue as far as I can see, is insufficient lateral tension in the spring/tab bracket design. The tabs lock vertically but there's no clamping action on the legs to the side of the shell. Fine for at home but like I say...

The Maxwells are brilliant unfortunately I do have to work with what I got. :) I tell ya those Gretsch brackets are like magnets to me putting them on that Ludwig drum lol! I can *feel* how solid it would be...

I'll just have to figure it out. Thanks again...
