What do you use to remove all the contact cement?

Hey Gaskeg I have not used anything but a plastic scraper up to this point. The contact cement is really old and dry so a lot of it is coming off with just soap and water and a little scraping. I was anticipating using something like Xylene but if they clean up this easily I will just go this route and use some goof off or something I have hear in the shop already on hand to hit the trouble spots.

I've had bad some reactions of goof off on plastics so be careful if you haven't used on wrap before. I had luck with lacquer thinner on a little bit of glue but have not tried with such thick looking stuff. I cleaned off the thinner with mineral spirits after. Very interested to see how the experiments go bringing it back to round!

This is a very interesting thread. Give the xylene a try and let us know how it worked. Xylene wont harm the original finish like laquer thinner will. Laquer will melt the original wrap, xylene won't but will disolve the glue as good or better. We use xylene to clean overspray contact adhesive off of the paint of cars when we install a vinyl top.
