I just wanted to thank everyone on this site for the great drumming community that has been created here and for the valuable assistance that has been provided over the last couple of years. A couple of years ago some of you helped my friend that Bad Guitarist hunt down a superstar bell brass which he gifted me. More recently, a lot of you have provided guidance as I have taken apart piece by piece a 1976 Vistalite kit that is something I have never done before and in the process also have mis placed a couple of things along the way which I have been able to replace with your assistance.

Everyone has been great and have shared some wonderful stories and experiences with me outside of the forum as parts and money have traded hands-its great to listen to each other and what a great time meeting some kind and wonderful people through this forum.

Thank you so much for the experience.....

This place is the best I've ever been involved with online. I'd be lost without the great advice from the friendly experts here. And then you have such a great host in TommyP. :)

Agreed 100%. I've been helped immensely through old posts as well as through private messages with members. I'm certain many of the old guard have answered the same questions over and over, yet they always come to help.

Thanks from me as well.

Yes, I feel that VDF is an amazing community of helpful folks. Like any family, we have our ups and downs, but the community "love" always wins out!

As always, a big shout out to both our Webmaster, David, who keeps this forum running, and to our wonderful Super Moderator, TommyP, who can be counted on to smooth over sometimes quarrelsome posts and is the "go to" guy for all things "Buddy"! I truly love being a part of the VDF family!

I gotta tell ya ... DWZ/CR got in touch with me privately as we have done business in the past, and said he was looking for some 70's era Ludwig WHITE insulators/gaskets for a 70's era Vistalite restoration he was doing, and would I happen to have a source for them. I made mention that Ludwig still offers them today, only in BLACK ... but for a restoration, I could understand wanting what was original. So! ... my suggestion was to take to the VDF and inquire, because ...

... you guys are the BEST here!, and would be more than willing to either locate and/or share the parts, and that is exactly what happened! So, with that said ... I THANK YOU all for the very kind words and votes of confidence in the way we run our "little vintage drum community" at the VDF! I've been here for 11 years now with David, and wouldn't have even stayed 1/2 that long if I didn't really enjoy what we have all built! THANKS again for the very kind words!, and so glad we're all still here! BEST!!!

I started a thread about VDF over at DFO.

This thread - (a not-so-uncommon sentiment expressed here) is (but one reason) why this site should not ever go away.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

DJ333!

Nah ... there's no "slow death" happening here at all, and that was an interesting post over at the DFO, although I don't know why you felt the need. However!, you can post up whatever you want of course!, I was 'jes sayin. So with that said, let me briefly address your concerns:

The internet ... has changed. It's that simple! I have been here for 11 years! .. ( that just blows me away actually! ) .. and in that time, many things have altered the way "it used to be" with regard to forums, etc. Today, and I think you just might agree, FB has pretty much taken over completely .. and .. point was made about mobile devices being the de facto today vs. the PC, and that is also correct. Folks go about getting and contributing their information differently today, with again, the mobile device now being the norm. That alone changes many things with a drum forum that was designed for the PC era. David's concept here is the same as it was originally .. but .. people come and go, and that has always been the case, and even with DFO. This also being a FOCUSED site for the history, care and feeding of vintage drums, makes it more "specialized", rather than a catch all drum forum. I'm not saying it's better, just more specialized, so that in itself will contribute to a high turnover of people with the stalwarts remaining in place despite the changes otherwise. In addition, and this may be even more apropos to your original query:

David started this as a labor of love, a side project, a historical hobby if you will. it's NOT his main gig. Once he got it up and running, and uploaded a TON of his own content, he decided to just let it run. Of course, attend to things when they were needed as far as updates, etc... but don't mess with it otherwise. it was originally conceived as a place to be comfortable, chill, look at and chat about, vintage drums. It has succeeded on many levels! .. and .. we do boast one of the nicest membership rosters around, meaning ... outside of a few malcontents from time to time, this place runs very well with everyone really wanting to help everyone else with very little in the way of posturing or ego. So...

... a "slow death" for the VDF? Nah! Business as usual, with the emphasis on a very nice membership base and a relaxed atmosphere. ALL of the stuff here can easily be accessed on FB today, and a lot of guys do that too! But, the VDF is HERE for those that want to visit and participate with very little trolling taking place, which is a MAJOR plus! Hopefully this might have shed some light on your query?
