Greatest Beatles Performance of All Time ... - October 24th 1963 Last viewed: 5 hours ago

They cut their teeth in downtrodden stinky, filthy nite-clubs and had a great following long before they made the "Big Time". And the result was a very tight and energetic live band.Comes as no surprise that this recording is as good as it was-they were the greatest live at that point in time!

Since this was before they came to the USA, Ringo is more than likely playing on his Mahogany Duroplastic kit (12/16/20) with matching 4x14 Royal Ace snare. It sounds really good too. If only someone could find this kit. CryBaby

I'm glad everyone is enjoying.

Don't forget their first live US show in the round at Washington DC Coliseum. Ringo having to move his kit around.

These were very interesting samples of what The Beatles sounded like without the screaming. A very tight band. Thanks for posting them.

Not to hijack this thread but my very first concert (which wins most bar bets) was The Beatles in San Diego in 1965. My dad handled the public relations and promotions for their San Diego appearance and we got to sit in the press box to watch the show. I was 9. It was like a variety show with a ton of opening acts and when they finally came on, they raced through 12 songs and ran for the bus. You really couldn’t hear anything and I could tell they couldn’t either. Even as a little kid, I knew it was a lousy show, due to the insane noise. But it was an event and to this day, I’m a huge admirer of their music, influence and impact. Attached are a few momentos.

Oops! Bad information, on my part. Ringo last used his Premier kit on May 12, 1963. He's using his Ludwig kit in this performance.

Some of you may have seen this:

It's a very interesting read.

Cool story thanks for sharing. Interesting that guitars are perched high on drum riser seemingly out of reach of the guys...

This is also mentioned in the link I provided. It appears there is some controversy on the authenticity of the Premier kit currently owned by Hard Rock International. The last report of it's location was at the Hard Rock Cafe in NYC on Broadway. The article's author states the swirl pattern on the rack tom runs in the wrong direction from all of the actual photos of Ringo sitting behind his Premier kit. After this little detail was brought to their attention, the Hard Rock has stopped responding to the author's inquiries.

With that, I believe the kit is still out there somewhere. Just like the article mentions, it could be in someone's basement/closet/garage or worse, in a landfill. The last reported possible location was Australia. Drum City sold it to a business man vacationing in the UK and had it shipped back to his home.
