Gretsch Double Tom Mount Mystery Last viewed: 14 minutes ago

Loading...

Hi Guys,

I just purchased a 1960's Gretsch kit and the double tom mount is unlike any I've seen from Gretsch. Its different from the catalog and any pictures I can find online. Everything else from the kit seems to be original. Can anyone tell me if this is actually a Gretsch mount?

Its awful, by the way! LOL

Another thing that is interesting is that the bass drum is drilled for a rail mount and the cymbal mount is installed. I do not know if that was done at the factory or not. Does anyone know if Gretsch did that on their Rock n Roll kits that came with the double tom mounts?

One other thing. The toms are 12" and 13". All the 1960's catalogs list the Rock n Roll kits with (2) 12" toms.

I'm trying to figure out what I've got. Thanks for your help.

i'm certainly not up on gretsch stuff. I do know that their double tom holder was real funky looking and that's not it. that double tom setup is ludwigs first Hollywood double tom mount used up until early 65. it was normally used with two 12" toms. the wood block separator is the big giveaway for that.

Super sleuth Mike solves it again.

They are gorgeous Gretsch's nonetheless.

Very nice. I see what appear to be two plugs in your bass drum that were likely where the rail mount once was.

What sizes are your drums? Your kit may have started life as a "Name Band Outfit"

Sonor SQ2 10 14 18 American Walnut
L.A. Camco 12 14 18 Moss Green
Gretsch Round Badge 12 14 18 w/snare Champagne
Gretsch Round Badge 12 14 20 w/snare Burgundy

From mlayton

from the 64 Ludwig catalog....mike

This mount fit the same as the Gretsch one for double toms...

Sure looks like it had a rail ...

You might want to take the plate off the BD...then you can see if badly drilled...factory would be clean...

Scratch that...I can see that it has a Luddy plate on there ...bummer :-(

Does the Ludwig plate fit without additional holes?
