well, i passed the sell along to another member!

I don't have the money right now (yeah not even 300 dollars)

i didnt know that this offer would come up, and spent my money on other drum paraphernalia.. makes me sick. but as long as another drummer can snatch em up i'll wait around till another offer comes up. Good Luck Purdie Shuffle!

Big Shout-out to Ludwigdrummer91!

The deal has been struck... these old babies are now mine and I should have them in a week. I'll kick off a new thread when I start the resto job on them. I'm psyched.

Anyone got a round badge project floor tom for sale or trade?

I'm thinking 'Tangerine Orange' like Dolfan/Steve did and just go Classic with it. The other thought is Cadillac Green paint. Your thoughts...

Thanks again LD91... good looking out. You can rest assured they are going to a good home where they will be given a second shot at life. If you like steel snares... I have a 6.5"x14" TAMA steel snare from the 80's in mint condition that I will be happy to send to you as a Thank You. PM me you mailing info.

Sweet John!!! I have a kit in the works myself.... 12/14/20 with snare. Was a total basket case but the shells are cherry!!! I have collected almost all the hardware I need to reassemble and have to decide on a color.

You are far more diligent than I and will likely finish yours up first, so I am anxious to see how it goes.... Besides, I have a super sweet new snare to keep me busy for a little while!!!

I tend to lean toward using a classic color/finish that goes with the period and the kit. These old round badge kits are rare and special. The kind of kit that deserves a formal restoration back to something that was used originally. I think if you go with something unusual, it will kind of spoil the vintage mojo. Not to mention hurt the value.

It may not go as fast as I'd like. It's going to take several hundred dollars more to do the kit right. After shelling out for the kit and shipping, my 'drum money' fund is low. But, I will begin working on them immediately after they arrive.

I want to see pix of your kit when it's done! "I'll show you mine if you show me yours!" LOL

Here are some more shots of the drums that the seller sent to me. The wrap is not going to be hard to remove from the bass and rack tom. Looks like the only thing holding it on the shell is the lugs and hardware! I'm wondering how good a condition the snare wrap is in. It looks pretty good in the photo. And... Oy, gevalt! Is that a sheet-rock screw in the strainer???? That'll have to be replaced for sure.

The seller told me he bought the kit -used- in the very early 60's. It's likely I'm looking at 50's Gretsch 3-ply shells! All the hardware seems to be there and the shells themselves are intact. Heads have -never- been removed or changed! I'm hoping the bearing edges have been preserved in 'like new' condition. I'll post again when they arrive. Enjoy the 'before' photos... when I get through with these, you won't recognize them!

If it comes with a few original cymbals i'm going to be kicking myself for many years to come!

As far as I know, it's just the drums I'm buying. If he throws an old pie in the box or some parts, I'll consider it icing on the cake! For now, I'm thrilled at getting three 50's round badge drums for a hundred bucks apiece! Even after I re-wrap them, I'll still be way ahead of the game.
